Mouth rot?

Hello, today I got some photos of my chameleon gaping to get a good look at his mouth and see if everything is okay. I’m getting really nervous because it looks odd to me. I’m just realizing that his mouth has never been that nice pink color from the day we got him home. It’s always been a weird grey color. Is that just his coloring or is this really bad??? He also had some questionable mucus when he opened his mouth. Is this normal? Have I done something wrong? Ugh I’m so scared I did something detrimental to his health

He looks normal to me and I'm pretty sure (like 95%) that some saliva is normal when they open their mouths in a defensive gesture. You could always fill out the help form so we know exactly what your husbandry is like.

The overall color of the inside of the mouth varies a lot. Some panthers have bright yellow mouths, some pink. I'd pay more attention to the overall condition of his gums; if there are no odd pale cheesy-looking patches, no brighter pink or red patches, blackened loose, or missing teeth. Some saliva is normal....its a mouth! If there was a lot of opaque clumpy looking mucous rather than clear saliva, I'd worry. BTW, he looks fine and feisty to me.
