Moving to San Diego!

I'm officially moving to San Diego here in 2 weeks. I am looking to find......

Reptile shows
Discussions/events/organizations/non profit
Places to buy bugs (costal silkworms is less than 20 mins away!)
Good exotic vet. ( Jeffrey Jenkins,DVM) is who I am currently looking at.

I don't mind driving to LA either.
I just want to find people that are into chameleons and know of some awesome local things going on for them.
Zoo is close too but no chameleons there when I went :(

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!!

Also, a good place locally to buy plants and the best plants for outside cages that are not toxic to my boys????

We are super excited to be here! Going to have amazing weather all year long!

Good bye snowy weather hello sun and sand!

Woot! Congrats. I've got a few answers for you. Over the last 20 years I've been to a lot of the exotic vets in town and I'd say my preference is Dr. Todd Cecil in La Mesa and if he isn't available, Dr. Tom Boyer in Rancho Penasquitos. Although they have lots of experience, I've always thought of Dr. Jenkins as more of an avian vet. There are lots of pet stores around but the least expensive for buying cages will probably be LLL. Our Lowe's stores here almost always have several sizes of Schefflera and Ficus to choose from.

Stuff to do - Reptile Super Show in LA in early January and in SD in late June. There's a herp society here but I think it's mostly snake and dragon people, at least the last time I went. You'll probably have to go up to LA for the SBCK meetings for "chams only."

Welcome!!!

good choice of location! love diego weather. b ut yea, AGREE with kent, their are 2 LLLreptile shops with in 70 miles from u, those will be great for healthy feeders and any other cham stuff really. there are alot of gardening shops down here, even some of the hydro shops sell plants too!

I live in SD as well. I house many chams outside here year round! It is an easy place to be a cham keeper.

Take me. Im not too far from Cinci. Im punctual too. Just let me know when and where to be. THANKS!!!!!:D

You should defiantly live here. I've never been so happy, blown away and just feel like I'm living life now and my chameleons are getting a great benefit! They're gonna love our new condo, 33 stories high overlooking the ocean and windows all around with a balcony! I can't wait to pick them up and get back here!

welcome to the neighborhood

i'm in santee. we've been in the "san diego" area for almost 2 years now (moved from ky/in) and we love it. =)

i will often buy crickets at reptile city, off of mission gorge, but as far as cages and those types of supplies, unless it were an emergency, i make the drive to LLL because it is significantly cheaper... you could order online from them though, too, if you didn't want to drive up. (being from ky, the "driving" doesn't bother me at all...it's nothing. lol)

just this year, i've been to a show in anaheim, long beach, and recently drove up for the one in pasadena (mainly to pick up a purchase from kammerflage), but again, i enjoyed the drive and even pasadena wasn't "too far" for me.

i've just recently realized how many forum members are in this area. kinda cool. =)

Thank you for all your local knowledge. Keep me posted about shows. I'd love to meet up and go and talk about chameleons with you! I understand the "drive". I'm used to driving an hour to eat or do anything rather cool so driving doesn't bother me, even though I'm excited to walk everywhere all the time!

Maybe once were settled and after Christmas we can all get together at my condo and have a "chameleon cocktail hour". Where we can show off our chams, and enjoy a relaxing evening of drink and mingling????

Hi and welcome to San Diego! Just like seeco said, weather here is perfect for chams year-round. I would be happy to answer any questions.

Awesome idea. Let me know.

I prefer Pet Kingdom in Point Loma for my feeders but I go to the Reptile City in Mission Gorge as well. I have my panther chameleons indoor for the winter here in La Mesa, so I don't have to fret about some <60F nights, but keep them in a screened patio most of the year. Beach weather, you can't beat it! I am curious why there have been to prior C&C(chameleons and cocktails) get-togethers before. That would be sublime! haha

Yaaay! Welcome to S.D. I am very new to these forums and will be getting a baby soon. I'm learning, reading, and researching LOTS. I have been here for a few years and LOVE it. Glad to see lot's of members from the same area and have even had the pleasure of meeting a couple...

There is a place in Lakeside called American Cricket Ranch and I have gone there to get crickets for all of my reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. They give you 1000 crickets of your choice in size for 15 dollars and you can even do pick up. GREAT deal! I use to get mine at Petsmart until I was reffered to the cricket ranch. 11 cents per cricket! Ouch. They also have other feeders... Here's a link to their web site.

If you do decide to place an order, call the day before intended pick up or before 11 am the same day. You can leave a message day or night if they don't answer and they will have your order ready the next day. Glad to have you!

Welcome! Pet Kingdom and Reptile City are both great. Being easy driving distance from LLLReptile is especially wonderful.

I'm pretty sure he only advertises one of the three annual shows at a time. I'll be seeing the promoter tomorrow or Friday and will make sure. They're all such good shows I can't imagine cancelling a single one.
