My 1st Panther Chameleon

He was a bit stinky. Not fishy, more like what his dropping smell like. I gave him a good mist shower. He didn't like that. He doesn't like to get wet often. Only time I noticed he wanted to get wet was right before he shed.

I found some info about parasites. Im not really sure how I would know if he had any. Consensus was most can live full lives with parasites. Am I reading that correctly?. I read some used dewormer (panacur) , the same stuff dogs get?. Also these 2 (Fenbendazole, Metronidazole) for horses?..

I dont want to start doing that and cause him issues when he isn't sick.

I had a digi in the cage. Sensor failed after getting wet. If Sensor gets wet it wont function properly. From what I've read analogs work OK..I have a bunch of digi's outside the cage. Looking at the ones outside the analog is almost the same. Im looking for a water prof sensor. Might try this model

Escapee's are tossed into the cage.

See post #86 heat lamp issue :) .

This is the digi that got wet. Wont work anymore.

The concern with analogs is if he rips it off and it gets stuck to him, good luck pealing that off him without you or him getting hurt or both.

There's nothing on the back that could stick to him. I use Velcro to attach things in the cage. Ive already added Digital Water resistant meters. I no longer need the analog.

How often does everyone use them Silkworms ?. My 1st order was 30 small. I did a good job keeping them alive and growing into large size. They where not cheap. I found a place in Vegas that has a good deal for 75 mediums for $22. I got them coming today. So far crickets have been a PITA to keep alive under the best conditions. Most are alive when I get them but after a few days many are dead. This all adds up quick for month $$ spent . Any tips to help save $$.. Is anyone using repeat delivery on Crickets?.

I buy 250 eggs at a time. Hatch them or 125 a week apart. Eggs are cheaper but obviously more time consuming. Have been waiting to feed silks for past 2 weeks

I got some eggs to try that. I'm not very confident I can hatch them properly. They have been in the petri dish for a few days now. Temps are hot here that should speed up things. I dont see anything happening yet. I will try my best.

I also hatch my silks from eggs, it was easier than I expected. I fed half of them off when they were the right size, then kept growing the rest. They are just starting to pupate. I'll let the moths breed and then keep the eggs in the fridge to hatch out smaller quantities. You still have to buy chow unless you are lucky enough to have a mulberry tree, but it's still kinda cheaper and more convenient to go this route I think.

If I had a steady supply of Silkworms Crickets would be off the menu. Silks have a better nutritional value from what Ive read..

I think in order to get a steady supply of silkies you'll need to hatch/breed your own and get some eggs in the fridge. They seem to only be available from a lot of vendors seasonally. Hard to find them over the winter, FYI.

Watching the behavior of Silkworms is interesting. They can def tell when Ares is near. They stand up perfectly still. I Assume to make themselves look larger?. Silks look like the larval stage of Mothera lol.

I checked on the Silkworm eggs and found a good amount had hatched. I have chow but its not dry so I put some small pieces near most of the babies.. I took a chunk of chow out and will let it dry so I can grate it. If anyone has any suggestion how to keep them alive please post.

I use frosting bags filled with chow to pipe in long thin rows of chow next to hatching worms, they'll move towards it on their own. Add in new rows daily or even twice daily at that age, wait for worms to move to new food then remove any dried up leftovers.

So I wont need to grate the chow as the directions indicate?. Its much easier to put down wet chow. I used an old coffee grinder on some dry chow to make powdered chow. Works good. Also the chow comes in powder form is that not usable?
