My cham fell from 7 feet

Frankenstein

New Member
Hello,I need desperate help,I left my chameleon(Franky) home, and I forgot his enclosure door opened,he left the enclosure and climbed on the window-curtain(around 7 feet) I found him on the floor, not moving,he can't feel his inferior legs and his tail .When I touch him on the back right there I feel a vibration like he's telling me it hurts him.I can only reach the vet monday. What should I do,please I need help.

He may come back around. He might just be stunned, but he also may be hurt. If he cannot move or grip with his back legs, I would find some kind of container and lay him on a towel or something like that. Something where he cannot fall trying to climb. You can try hand feeding him and dripping water on his nose to keep him hydrated. Can you post a picture of him?

Yes,I will post a picture he can grip with his legs but not too much,he is like 90% paralized on his inferior legs.:(( I also have to mention that it happend like 4-6 hours ago

Well just keep him as comfortable as possible. Get him to the vet as quickly as you can. Don't they have any emergency vets by you??

Place him in a simple container with a cloth towel that is kinda bunched up, not flat. That way he can at least grip the cloth if he needs to.

The other advice given is the best thing you can do for now. Keep him hydrated. Don't try and feed him for a day or two. Monday go see your vet if you feel you need to. He may bounce back after a day or so.

I once had a Jackson get loose and of course he climbed a 20' tall tree in the front yard. After climbing that tree to retrieve him I cornered him on the end of a branch. As I reached for him he looked at me and said "you'll never take me back alive!" then jumped. That lizard hit every branch on his way down like a pinball. I almost fell myself.

After getting to the ground thinking he's a goner I found the little bugger making a run for it across the lawn. He had some bumps and brusies and one leg seemed not be working as well as it should. After two days he was back to normal.

That doesn't mean you'll have the same luck I did. All it means is there is hope. Use your judgement.

Hopefully like the first poster said he's hopefully just stunned. Did he fall on carpet or a hard floor.

He fell on parquet ,he is sleeping very well,he doesn't seem to be disturbed, but he obviously need help,he just drags his legs and he tries to get somewhere,I also try to put him in a tree and he also can't use 90% of his back legs.I also try to massage his belly, maybe he is also constipated and somehow the fall released the constipation. Is it dangerous if I try to touch his legs,or even move them?

I'm sorry to hear about your chameleon. He really needs a good vet experienced with chameleons. Do you already have a good vet? If not if you tell me where you are located I might be able to recommend one.

He just ate one fly,but Im very scared that he won't be able to poop, should I be worried?I mention that yesterday he eliminated the white thing, but not the actual poop.

Do not touch him. Just put him in a box with a bunched up towel. Don't worry about feeding him. He could have all kinds of damage to internal organs and bones and your poking him could make it worse, much worse.

All kinds of things can be wrong. Spinal damage, broken legs, feet or ribs. Internal injuries including lung trauma.

Just put him in a small box and keep him hydrated.

So you did not comment on the fact that you have a female and not a male. Black could be bruising or possible nerve damage. It is possible if she is egg-bound that that could be part of the problem also.

Tbh I didint even knew,is just my second cham in less than 7 months, and I love her so much.I dont think she might be having eggs, because she never been around a male.

Female chameleons can lay infertile eggs without ever being exposed to a male. IMO (not an expert) she looks a little round to me and might possibly look like she is gravid. Like other people mentioned, being egg bound may have contributed. It may not have, but it is worth looking into. It is good that you are taking her to a vet.

Your girl definitely needs a vet visit and x-rays. She may have eggs and most likely need some liquid calcium for her bones.

Here's a few vets in the UK:
