My female ambanja baby was purchased from JJ's reptiles. I noticed when she got home she was VERY sick. She hasnt eaten in almost a week. She is very skiny. She is also blind in one eye. The poerson who picked her up for me didnt notice any of this. She started rolling on the floor of her cage and started spitting out her toung which was just a off white ball on a black string. WHAT DO I DO??? she isnt choking on it now ecause I helped it out a bit. but she cand pull it in because it is un developed. PICS SOON

How sad-that is her tongue-it sounds like she is dieing, and there really is not anything you can do. Was her tongue out that far or did you pull it out?

She put it out 3 inches and then pulled it in to an inch but no further. I didnt pull it out. She was purchased from JJ's and I noticed right away on arival that she was VERY unhealthy

Hi ambilobeguy,

There isn't much you can do, except keeping the tongue wet at all times and go to the vet immediately.
Since you probably just got this chameleon, you might want to contact the breeder you bought it from.

Also, I understand the emergency of the situation. But, please be patience in waiting for responses instead of double posting. Rest assured people will respond.

I agree with Julirs. It doesn't look good. I'm not even sure an intervention from a vet will help her out. Keep her as comfortable as possible.

I would call the breeder right away and let them know the condition she was in when you got her. That way, if she doesn't make it, they should give you another cham or at least credit you the money yuo spent on her. They need to know it was not your husbandry practice that caused this.

Thats horrible! The tongue is damaged and a cham without a tongue is a death sentance!!!
Sorry for your loss!

Ambilobe Guy...sorry for your loss.

A chameleon without a tongue is not a death sentence if the tongue ends up hanging out due to an injury or a nutrient problem...but the tongue can not be left hanging out.

When a chameleon is dying its also common for the tongue to fall out of the mouth....and this is a sign of impending death in that case.
