My chameleon hates me

I got a veiled chameleon about 4 weeks ago. The pet store said he's about four months old. He was nice at first but now I can't even put my hand in his cage without him freaking out and hissing at me. I heard its good to hand feed them
But I'm scared he might bite my hand. Sometimes I feed him with tweezers and it's not a problem but I really want him to like me without it scaring me and him both. Any suggestions?

Hi welcome to the forums :)
Sorry your having trouble with your Cham.
We need a little more information so we can help you better.
Such as what type and size cage your Cham is in. What you are using for lights, feeding and more.

Here is some recommended information to include when asking for help in the health clinic forum. By providing this information, you will receive more accurate and beneficial responses. It might not be necessary to answer all these questions, but the more you provide the better. Please remember that even the most knowledgeable person can only guess at what your problem may be. Only an experienced reptile veterinarian who can directly examine your animal can give a true diagnosis of your chameleon's health.

You need patience, a little more patience and what's most important is patience. Just yesterday was the first day my Cham ate out of my hand, twice but it took two months! She only did hand held cup before that. That's just my experience and it looks like people around here get it done a lot sooner but that's just how my Cham is.

That being said, do what Jaxy recommends and fill that info out. ;)

I've had Apollo with me for about 2 months now. He eats from my hand sometimes, others he just gives me the stink eye. They are quite moody creatures :p I suggest trying to hand feed and be patient. First time he ate from my hand took me about half an hour holding a dubia (which he loves), after many many failed attempts. After some time, he started reacting quicker. Right now, he either automatically goes for it, or I know he isn't interested.

I really can't get him to climb onto my hand on his own will, but I really try :)

I've been placing my hand across his path for some time now, and he usually tries to avoid touching it, but hopefully he will start using it soon.

I believe, as SocialNumb says, the trick is patience, and if you endure it, the results often will be very rewarding. But don't be expecting him to wag his tail and come to meet you by the cage door, as they aren't really social :p

My Bob

I must be very lucky then as i only bought my Cham today and he has eaten out of my hand and comes onto my hand willingly he is so friendly and i just hope it stays that way, i hope your Cham in time will love you as much as you love him/her
