My chameleon is sick

I must have read the post wrong
Any chance you could post some pictures of him and his enclosure? It would really help
what is the humidity like?

if you fill out all the question on the help form we can rule out MBD but if you don't how can anyone say for sure that it is a possibility and IMHO thats what it sound like to me.

hzd, it's possible that he's a bit constipated from the hard skins of the meal worms. You might try picking up some butter or wax worms or better yet, silk or horn worms (though, those are harder to come by). They're a lot wetter and might get things going. I've also seen pear baby food recommended...

Take a look at the base of the bulb and see if there are any letters there that might give you a clue.

Do you remember the box? Was it perhaps this?

Cody, as DaveBuchanan said, it would be better for you to start a new thread. It causes problems when more than one chameleon is being discussed in the same thread. To start a new thread, click the "New Thread" button in the upper left corner, about an inch or so below the Forum logo.

Okay, reptiglo bulbs are pretty standard.

To add pictures: use the POST REPLY button (not the handy quick reply box). There you will have more tools on your toolbar. One is a paperclip. If you click that, it will let you upload up to 5 files from your computer. They will show up as "thumbnails" in your reply. When we click them, they will open up to full size.

He is just laying on my hand, like the actual side of his body is laying on my hand as if he was a human and trying to sleep on his side, he is alive yes but he makes no effort at all to try and get up, i don't ever really do this to him, i just did this to show you what was happening

Side view # 1, so you can check him out to see if you can spot anything wrong

This is how he is sitting on his branch all day, just sits on his stomach, and he isn't very active as much as he was before he started acting like this, he use to run all over the cage and be very energetic, but now he is just mopy and sits in 1 place

He's very handsome. He doesn't look well though.

Which Repti-Calcium do you use? There is one with D3 and one without D3.

Have you upped the temperature at the basking spot? I was thinking he was younger (I got confused....). That guy can handle a basking temperature of 90 degrees. It might be exactly what he needs.

I know you've only had the UVB bulb for 4 months and it's typically recommended to replace them every 6 months, but you might want to get a new bulb. They all drop off on UVB after 3 months and since he's doing poorly, you want to give him all the advantages you can.

The calcium I'm using has D3. I'm probably going to end up buying a new bulb very soon, I think I'm going to bring him in to the reptile store since they know a lot of stuff about this. And if there is anything serious I'll just take him to the vet.

And also, he has been sitting in the same spot in the picture I took, the 4th picture where he is just laying on the branch for about 2 hours, and hasn't really moved a bit, he also closes his eyes randomly sometimes.

I think taking him to a vet with chameleon experience is a really good idea.

I think you need to buy a calcium without D3. Use that daily. The normal recommendation on this board is to give D3 twice a month. Do you use a multivitamin? It's recommended you dust with a multivitamin twice a month as well.

Now it does seem like the only obvious issue may have been a D3 overdose, which can also cause these problems. Closing his eyes during the daytime and being as lethargic as that is definitely serious. He is a very handsome chap though, I hope he recovers for you :)

I am glad you got the light figured out. and David is right closing his eyes during the day and laying inn your hand being lathargic are very serious symptoms. I would get him into a vet with chameleon experience ASAP. I hope he gets better for you. my fingers are crossed. keep us updated

He is having trouble sticking his tongue out to eat things, I had to put a cricket up to his mouth today just so he can get it. I'm going to take him to the pet store so they can give me some details about this aswell. And how do I reverse this overdose, does this overdose prevent him from eating aswell?

vitamin a problems cause tongue problems my male mitsio has it vit a deficient he just kinda scoops up his prey its getting better now i switched my multivitamin too rep-cal herpavite (beta carotene) he shoots his tongue now but not to full potential yet

also repashy calcium plus is suppost to be the best for easy scedule and it has all the chams need at the proper ratio

I believe that over supplementing with Vitamin D3 can cause difficulty in processing Vitamin A (it's sort of like vitamin Jenga).
