my chameleon loves incense and BB King

Also, I'm sure they can pick up bits and pieces of whatever has a low enough frequency, but I'm pretty sure softschools.com is not a leading authority on chameleons to be cited.[/QUOTE]

I'm not saying chams can hear like we do, but I'm totally convinced they hear better than what herpetologist say. I take my cham outside and a car goes by that is out of her sight and she jumps and turns her eyes every time to look. Sneak up on your cham some time without them seeing you make a noise and see it they don't look in the direction of said noise. Try it see for yourself as they say the proof is in the pudding. No offence but just because someone is well educated doesn't mean they have all the answers. When scientist thought the world was flat they were considered educated, and smart how did that turn out. ;)

Everything is a vibration, especially an internal combustion engine, just listen to a Harley taking off. And like I said, I'm sure they can pick up on low enough frequency, even in our voices, but to anthropomorphize and think they appreciate music as we do is a bit much. Yes, I believe they will look in the direction of "said noise". I understand that a "well educated" person may be regurgitating erroneous information, but I'm basing my beliefs on personal observations and corroborated evidence documented by credible sources. That's my pudding. ;)

Turning bright colors is more a sign of annoyance than enjoyment. They do that in defense. If you want real bright colors show him another male. He may not be happy at all about the incense and it isn't something I would recommend. That goes for loud noises as they stress very easily.

Have some one take a video of you playing a song to your Cham. I'd love to see his reaction! Maybe you can silence some of the naysayers.

My male Yemen veiled Chameleons cage area I keep clean, I also use Windex to clean his cage and I also like to keep the area smelling clean (he hates the smell of Windex, but i need to keep his area clean).

I know Chameleons don't smell nor their poop smells, but I do burn incense around his cage, I always have good amount of crickets loaded near his cage and sometimes it smells weird so I burn incense near/around the cage.

At first, when he saw the smoke, he was pissed, turned a different Colour - have no idea why, it didn't blow on is face or body. But now when I burn incense, he likes to come close to the incense smoke and likes to stay near it.

If you accidentally have smoke in his cage from the incense, turn on your mist, it will clear the cage and get rid of the smoke.

I would burn it 3 - 5 feet away. I would make sure any type of smoke doesn't get it. I do vape 420, but I do it in the other room. Reptiles can get high and it will confuse them; they won't know what to do when they are high. First reaction will be colour change, then it can be anything.

Both Windex and incense contain irritants to the lungs. You are polluting his air and probably doing lung damage.

The ammonia in Windex is a major respiratory irritant. The residue from incense will settle on surfaces including the cage leaves from which your cham drinks. Even if your mist settles the smoke, it still leaves residues that you probably don't want your cham ingesting. Its the accumulation that's the problem.

I treat my chams like birds as both of their respiratory systems are pretty complex and sensitive. No heated scented oils, air fresheners, incense, smoking, or aerosol cleaners around their space. There are other less toxic non-spray options for cleaning surfaces.

oh lawd. enough has been repeated theres no need for me to say it again.. that being said, i talk to my cham out of habit. like he's a cat. but he could care less. he gets pissed off when we run the washer because of its immense shaking i imagine it causes tons of annoying vibrations.. good thing i only do laundry one day a week! he gets spotty when he's mad. but he puffs up and turns bright when he is nervous or excited.. if someone walks in the front door he immediately inflates himself.. too bad he can't bark, i'm positive he would bark at people if he could lol

How are you supposed to clean his area?

I guess dish soap and water when mopping his area?

When I dust crickets with calcium, that whole area gets white, it even gets on the Chameleon, it looks like he just did a line of something suspicious. When he shoots for the cricket, he does it so fast that the dust from the cricket will go on him. Should I wipe it off?

Should I just water for cleaning his area? can I use soap at all? something to get rid of any stuffy smell to re freshen his area.

Talking to a cham, singing to it, calling it by name, playing music in the room, certainly doesn't hurt anything. Again most of this is simply misinterpreting what your cham is doing and why. If the cham is watching something that makes noise it is most likely WATCHING the movement rather than listening. The fun side is...you can name them anything you want and they won't care one bit.:D

when you dust the crickets do it in a container that has a lid. don't dust inside the cham's cage..also if they are causing dust explosions when he shoots for them, then youre overdusting. they shouldnt look like little white ghosts after a dusting. careful overdusting can cause calcium toxicity. dust getting on him and the plants is harmless. i lightly dust and still some falls on the plants. i hold the dusting bucket inside his cage and remove the lid and some of them hop out (this is how dust gets on my plants), the others he nabs before they get a chance

only reason i know the spots mean he's mad is cause he does it when someone is reaching for him. i have a few friends who get excited and want to hold him. im like sure stick your hand in there go right ahead when he turns black and bites the crap out of you it's not my problem lol. he just charges and hisses though, he's not a biter. he doesn't give this reaction when it's me. he is to the point now where he hesitates for a second then climbs on me because he knows he's getting out of the cage or getting fed... quickest way to their heart= food lol

Didn't mean to strike a cord sorry, But I did say they don't hear as well as we do just better than Herpetologists think. So I'm sure they don't appreciate music like we do in fact I would say it would stress them out if anything. And I was referring to quiet cars not Harley's. I don't think we are too far apart on our reasoning hear. :)

No worries. I as well. This thread just sets the mood. Between the incense, instruments and windex, it gets me all crazed up in the head. Hate to see what it'd do to a little chameleon. I, too, believe the people who successfully keep these animals are just as important as the scientific community and both have valuable information to help develop our understanding. Just in this case, most of the sounds/vibrations are accompanied by motion. It's the old snake charmer scenario. It's not the sound but the motion that visually stimulates the cobra. I did like the "strike a chord" line though. Very appropriate. Good one. :D

There are simple "green" products that clean pretty well including vinegar and very hot water. Soap may leave a residue if you don't rinse it well. Also check in to the diluted cleaners from natural food stores or products that are pet and baby safe. There are several types of veterinary cleaner-disinfectants available too.

hi! my cham loves it when i burn incense (i can tell bec whenever i light it he turns bright green and yellow). he also loves it when i play the blues on my guitar. he also turns bright colors when i play. anyone else expeirence that type of thing with your cham

I'm pretty sure chameleons have internal ears and can only hear very loud noises, I learned this because someone worried there chameleon would be scared of their vacuum. Also im not sure smoke is too good for a chameleon.
