My FIRST panther!

I'm getting my first panther and will be picking up an egg in 6 weeks when i get back from iowa. Hoping its a male if not the breeding said he might even upgrade it! Very happy I am being helped out by a very generous person, thanks again you know who you are! :) BTW here is the cage, if it gets lost in it it will go in a smaller bird cage or something till its a bit bigger. I picked this cage up for $60, it is a 2 x 2 x 4 reptibreeze that came with multiple bendy jungle sticks (forgot what they are called), some fake plants, a large wood thing with branches to climb on, 2 heat lamps, and a uvb light. The guy I bought it from actually forgot the lights so he is coming back to drop em off today. I will keep everyone updated on this thread when I get the egg, when it hatches, and so forth.

I am hoping to get an automatic mister and I will also hook the cage up to 2-3 ultrasonic foggers (multiple ones so I make a curtain in the back wall of the cage. I can connect them to a few pvc pipes and then connect the pipes to a flat rectangle piece with a slit on the end to create the curtain effect.)

You may want to just bite the bullet and go ahead and get a misting system from MistKing. All of those store bought misters/foggers are useless and will need to be replaced. Plus foggers aren't much use for chameleons. That's just for show. Is that a water dish at the bottom of the cage? If so get rid of it. They don't drink like that. They are dew lappers so they need to be good misting a 3-4 times/day. Make sure you replace the UVB bulb when he brings it over the lights. You don't know how old it is and they need to be changed every 6 months or so.

Also, buying an egg is a little weird to me. A reputable breeder usually will not sell a chameleon until he/she is around 3 months or at least until they are on small crickets. That cage is waaay to big for a hatchling. Make sure you do your research. You may be getting in over your head. Good luck.

You know this isnt my first chameleon right? I know how to take care of a chameleon and no its not a water dish, it's a stand. I know you're just trying to help but this post actually kind of annoyed me. Also like I said it will be staying in a smaller bird cage till its older. Yes some breeders sell eggs its not too uncommon you can even get them off ebay.

I feel like (at least the way I see it) we all come here to share our thoughts with each other and provide information. I'm new here, but I find your response in very poor taste and almost snarky. He was just providing suggestions. There's no way for he or anyone else to know that you've cared for chameleons in the past. Just my 2 cents.

LOL I would think the "senior member" would have been an indication. This made me smile. Also pretty much everything that he 'corrected' was already addressed in your first couple of posts.
Annnnnyyyway, that's really cool. I like the curtain effect, and I may have to try it myself after I see how it works out. Only thing I would say is more foliage, but since it's a hatchling it would probably be overwhelmed with too much of it anyway. Or would it feel more secure? Hm. Something to think about. Lol. I'm excited to see your new baby. How far along will the egg be when you pick it up? How long will you have to wait until he/she hatches?

There are plenty of ways he could have known that reptileguy was experienced. First indicator being the senior member tag, although that's certainly not conclusive. Also, if the original post had been read more carefully, TheEricJ would see that most of what he commented on had already been addressed.

Im going out of state for a month so I will pick up the plants when I get back, dont need any more dead plants while im gone :)

i wasn't trying to offend you. I just assume that if someone is posting stuff on the forums that they are seeking advice or are willing to engage in general discussion in regards to their post. Good luck with your egg

Plenty of ways to see that he is experienced? You mean the post title of "my first panther"? Or the comment about picking up an egg? Or the comment about putting a hatchling in a bird cage. None of that gives me the impression of "experienced". I'm not quite sure why you wanted to jump in this but I wasnt trying to offend anyone.

Its actually quite common to keep chameleons in close gap bird cages. I was probably just in a bad mood earlier but your posts continue to annoy me, just stop.

ahhh so thats how the curtain effect is achieved. I was in a grocery store in Portugal and they had the same effect misting onto the vegetables to keep them fresh, in retrospect I should have asked how they did it or inspected their system myself but I didn't. I tried myself drilling small holes down the length of a pvc pipe but the mist just came out of the holes closest to the source. I'll give the rectangle slit a go. Thanks for the tip :)

you should put a small desktop fan at the beginning of the pipe and probably multiple small foggers, I have heard that helps. I probably wont do holes, just 3 foggers, a fan, and a 2' long 1" diameter pcv pipe with a long thin slit on the bottom.

I got back from Iowa last night and I am hoping to get the egg today or tomorrow. So from what I have read I need to keep the egg in a plastic container with a light layer or perlite that is kept moist at room temp (70 to 75 F) and also never let it roll over.

I'm going to go ahead and keep it in a 15 gallon plastic tub for around a month till it is a little bit more developed and then move it to the reptibreeze XL

You really don't want to move the egg around. You want it to stay in the same position/container without changing it. You don't need anything as big as a 15 gallon tub, incubating the egg in a tupperware container is perfectly fine until it hatches.
