hi this is my first post here on the forum. ive been thinking of getting a pair of veilds. these will be my first chameleons. ive had numerous amounts of reptiles in the past, but now i want chameleons. so i started building my new enclosure it measures 58x21x48. it has a solid divider down the center so its actually 2 enclosures in one. the divider has a sliding door built in so durring breeding time i just slide the door open let them interact and close it. i still need to get some decor for the enclosure as well. ill try and post pics later. please tell me your opinions as im open to all, and trying to build something my new friends will enjoy

Well, I'm impressed!!! Very, very nice beginning. You've got a winner there. Thanks for sharing and welcome to the forum.

Now its time to get some of this setep ill update you guys later

Looks like you've been doing your homework. Nice cage and accessories. It should be a nice setup when you're complete. Are you planning on using live plants? Have you thought about drainage? It pays to have your enclosure complete before bringing home your chams. Good luck.

I do plan on using live plants. Been looking around a little for some. Just dont know what i want exactly as there is a vast range of wonderful looking plants. as for drainage i think im going to get a 12volt fuel pump meant for filling rc planes, and just simply pump the tray dry. As for trays if i would have thought about it a little more before hand. I would have made the enclosures fit a tray made comercially. But i work in the thermo forming business ill just make a couple trays to my specs that will fit perfectly.... maybe ill have 5 trays, 2 that will obviously be used to hold plants excess water, 2 to have ready cleaned to exchange with the dirty trays, and 1 to set the plants in while i clean the enclosure.

LOL. Your Chamy won't mind a bit!!! Great job getting it home. That was quite a trip. Looks right at home now!

You really can't go wrong with Pothos (devil's ivy) and Shefflera (umbrella plant). They're readily available at almost any garden center and fairly inexpensive. They also seem to thrive in cham cage environment.

Thanks mrfixit. Ill have to check on those this week hopefully ill get a few plants going and get this enclosure setup.

Oh yeah. I was able to get the vines hung but ill def get more of those too

Does anybody here have experience with those drip walls from lllreptile? I saw that thought it was quite interesting?

I got some more vines added in the other enclosure picked up some small fake plants trying to get a feel for my enclosure. I got some 4' bulbs but neither one worked so ill have to return them tonight for new ones.

I need to raise the basking area in the left cage about an inch or so, so it will be the samedistance from the basking light. The right basking area got to 83* last night during my initial trial. The left side stayed about 80*

I made a couple trays for the enclosure today. I originally planned to form some trays, but with time constraints at work that didnt pan out. So i fabbed them up. They measure 19½ x 26½ x 2. Only took about 20-30 minutes.

What do you think?

your cage is looking gr8! awsome to see you starting off so wonderful and really doing your homework ^^! you'll have happy chams. we have a live plant database. theres pleanty of ferms and small trees you can use that will make your pets feel more at home. as for the products you bought on gutloading- yes on the cal cubdes. i use those. you can buy cheap non cal ones but i like them with cal as a back up on my gutload. the grain stuff? not so much. get mustard and kale greens, frush fruits and veggies, and whole wheats ect to gutload with. sandrachameleon has sooo many amazing blog you should read up on. :)

Thanks! Im just trying to make sure my chams will be happy. Im going to be picking up some plants on saturday. I plan on having it full furnished this weekend then get my chams the week after that. Also thanks for the food tip, and ill be checking sandras blogs. Thanks again!
