My new Chameleon!

Hi everyone, despite one brief thread I'm new to these forums, as well as owning a Chameleon. I've raised a handful of different reptiles throughout my life, including Bearded Dragons. Geckos, and an Iguana; however, I've always wanted a Chameleon. Chameleon's are probably one of my top three favorite animals, and I'm so happy to finally be raising one. This is Charlemagne! I got lucky and found this guy at a local pet store who had just gotten him from a supplier. He's honestly younger than I was expecting to find (at least I assume so because of his size), so I'm excited for the opportunity to raise him from adolescence. I look forward to sharing my journey and learning more about these wonderful animals with you all!

You're calling it "he"...did they tell you it was a male?

Thanks! I'm actually not sure what the gender is. I just posted in the ID forum asking at which age you can generally tell a gender. I'm very curious to know, I just tend to default to "he" (likely because I am male).

One question: It looks like from your picture angle that the cage is below eye-level... is it?

Also, I know you just got him, but be sure to fill up his cage with more chameleon safe plants and climbing branches to make the most of his cage space!

@KeopiCat On the note of his cage being below eye level, I just recently moved my setup about 10" higher and added a 10ft.live Pothos vine because I felt like me looking down at my guy kinda spooked him. I've only had him a week as of Friday,do you think this will help and was a necessary move? Also, he already seems a little timid as is.

The viv is not on eye level, should it be? After reading RayBomb's post I get the impression that they don't like to be looked down on, in the literal sense. Or, is there another reason you ask?

His cage is going to be very full. I'm waiting on a local store to get some Ficus that I ordered in. I was also planning on picking up a few more decorations, and another thermomiter / hydrometer before work today as well. It's a little lack luster now, but within a day or two it should be full of life.

Definitely, chameleons like to look down on you and extra greener and shelter is always a bonus. ^-^"

Nope, that was the reason I was asking. Chameleons should always be able to get higher than eye level within their cages, it allows them to feel secure.

Awe what an angel! You're lucky to have gotten him out of the pet store so quick! Saved him from the neglect he may have gotten! Although you should see and find out his actual age, or DOB.
