My New Little Guy

Alright, Is there anything else I need?
There is a lot of empty space in your viv, empty space = wasted space to your Cham. Fill your viv with branches running vertically and horizontally. See example below. Don’t need to spend any money on this, sticks from your yard will do. And you defanitly need to create a basking spot for your Cham directly below your lighting. He needs a spot there to get his UVB and bask when needed. Find a spot about 85 degrees and make his basking spot there. And I know your mom doesn’t want to spend any more money but the uvb bulb you have is trash. Not your fault. You need a linear uvb hood like the one below.

I hope all these adjustments hasn’t ruined the fun of getting your first Cham.

It hasn't at all I just want to keep him alive and healthy ill look into the lamp and maybe ill order it soon if its alright by parents just adding things into the cage I don't want to stress him by me putting sticks in, also about the sticks, do i have to take the bark off and clean it and bake it? Also thank you @Tucklander I was told it was like taking care of a puppy Lol

It may be a while before I get that hood, Is there an alternative for now?

So you have the uvb compact light right now, it’d be best to get a linear light ASAP, however since it’s summer you can put the enclosure in a shady area outside and let him get some real sunlight, until you can get the new linear lamp...a couple hours...just make sure it’s mild and a shady spot, don’t want him in hot weather about 80-85 so maybe in the morning or late afternoon ...I really wouldn’t wait long on getting the linear t5ho bulb long though...that’s there artificial sun and imperitive to the Chams health...I was in the same boat, I had the compact one and ordered mine online, so he had the compact for about 2 weeks...I didn’t know they weren’t very good at first either. Also with the stick, no you don’t have to bake them, just get any loose bark off, run it under some hot water and then put it in, make sure there’s no loose debris on it, Chams will eat bark, soil, Moss...so make sure it’s clean...but yeah it’ll be better to have more perches right away...and the best part is they can be free :) good luck, you’re on the right path, keep asking???s and you’ll be golden:)

thank you and sorry for the late response i was taking the bark off all the sticks I was a little late lol. Anyways, how long should he be outside for? because i have to go somewhere tomorrow and I do not want him to get stolen

You should only do it during mild times of the day ...morning or evening since he’s young, also in the shade too as said...so only when you can monitor the timing and temperature...I would say 2 hours, any real sun is great for them, and he will get it in the shade, don’t worry about that. So if it doesn’t work for tomorrow do it on a day when you can monitor:)

Awesome...glad you could get the light so fast. And that’s great to give some sunlight when you can. It’s a great community/forum! Keep us posted on the progress. Good luck ;)

Is it important to watch your chameleon eat? like I caught him eating a cricket yesterday and they hide at the top of the cage, also one kissed him which was funny to see but how do you know hes eating enough?
