My next pet will be a...?

Looking for a new species of lizard. No, I haven't gotten bored with cresteds :)rolleyes:), my niece has. I figured it could be her own "pet" for when she visits. She has been hands on with the cresteds, but keeps, saying "Brina you need a new 'aminal'" I wouldn't mind trying another species of lizard, either.

I was thinking of getting a Cuban Knight Anole, but they seem to need a lot of space and a lot of handling(?) Also seems to be hard to find CB.

Basically, what I'm looking for is something along these lines:

-Friendly with children (I can work with the animal if needed).
-Doesn't need temps over 100
-Has similar care to a crested gecko (temps of the room this animal will go into is 76-79 during the day, 68-72 at night. Humidity is always at least 40%.)
-Can live in something smaller than 30 gallons (although I do have a 50 gal for when it gets older if need be).

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be grateful. I would prefer to not get another crested or Rhacodactylus in general, because I would prefer to keep my mother sane. :D

Thanks!

I'm not too sure the idea of that would be too appealing to my mother, however, it does sound interesting!

Are there any mantids that live longer than a couple months?
edit: I don't have a too-local supply of pinheads or small foods, though.

I looked at the orchid mantis a few months ago. From what I was told they live a couple of years, and can eat fairly big crickets (3 week old, I think). They are marvelous to watch. Someone on this forum has them, so maybe he can give more information.

Only a couple years? Hah, I guess I should add (please live over 5 years!) to my first post. :D

But that sounds pretty awesome. 3 weeks are still somewhat small. The only local crickets we have are petsmart crickets (but I go to another place once or twice a week to feed my little geckos).

:p :D

Lo siento, Jo. I would really like to see some CB pet rocks one of these days. I'm surprised no one has bred them, it's been so long!

Thought I heard some 'clinking' noises one night after I played a barry white record, but nothing came of it!
Did find a really lumpy one in my garden though, looks 'gravel' :p

A knight anole would be cool but there shy and hate humans... :) (good luck finding a CB)
How about a AFT

I already have leopards, the AFTs seem to be pretty similar for the most part appearance-wise, and my mom says they look like snakes (the head). I've always wanted to get a few but they just aren't too common, kind of bland.

Theres a knight anole that lives in my yard who enjoys coming to visit me when I feed my chams and eats out of my hands, maybe hed like to make a trip to AZ lol. On a serious note, how about a small tegu or monitor species?

You know, I was really thinking about a tegu or monitor, I'm just not too sure I would have the proper room for it once it got to a good size.

Hey, send him on over! Just make sure he is parasite free... hah.

Someone with CB Cuban Knight Anoles needs to talk to me right now. *cries*

Also *cough*leachie*cough*

Im sure you could find a smaller species, my monitor eats live mice only once a week and IM sure hed be fine without it, he normally eats ground meat, meaty dubia, and frozen mice, Tegu are omnivores so they eat fruit in addition to meat, mice, and insects

Hmm, I need a bigger dubia colony lol. But even the small species need somewhat large tanks depending on how active they are, right? *not a monitor expert at all*

To be honest, my adult Savannah monitor is quite happy in a 50 gallon, he is out of his cage alot of the time anyways so he really only sleeps & eats in there, I know other people who keep some smaller tegu species in 50 gallons and they are quite happy in it, To be honest, CB savannah monitors in my experience are quite fiesty, my wc male is very relaxed and layed back.

Interesting. I'd have to find a tegu or a monitor that is small but calm. Probably going to be hard to do unless I have a lot of time to work with it. As often as small children scream just to annoy me, I don't think I want to be at fault.. hehehe..
