My Parents Don't Trust Me!!! HELP!!!

That's a shame. Some folks are just not 'reptile people' and don't understand. However, im a parent too and my daughter fixates on things for a while and then gives up! (the two Leo's that now live in my room are clear cut evidence of that! The Leo's are just lucky that my parter and I ARE reptile people :p)

I think the essay is a great idea! It'll show them you're serious about your pet and hopefully they will reward your maturity and redponsability accordingly.

My parents never let me have a pet! I wanted a reptile for such a long time and was hideously disappointed at every Christmas and birthday that I didn't get one. So in one way youre kinda lucky if you get to have one in the first place, even if they're not being particularly supportive at the moment, I had to wait till I was 28

If I were you I would get an older chameleon, it will cost a little bit more but they are a lot more hardy and a lot less sensitive versus a younger juvenile. Just explain that to your parents. The stress from being shipped and all of that may have caused the juvenile to get sick very easily. So if i were you I would explain that to your parents and let them know.

I would suggest getting books as well to show them that you are serious about your research and are dedicated to improving your husbandry so there is not a repeat of last time. I would also do the essay thing and have a serious, adult conversation that absolutely does not end in any kind of fight. As a child (I was 7 when I got my first chameleon) my mother knew I was serious because she saw me reading the chameleon books I had from cover to cover. I spoke with the reptile specialists at the pet stores as well. I discussed with my mom about everything we needed and why the chameleon needed it.

haha I do that untill I get my pet. but I have noticed alot of us cham owners just love nature in general so we all seem to love reading. Before I got my cham every day I was on this site or shopping for the perfect cham.

I like the essay idea. And, if you set up and maintain the vivarium and get the live plants and set up right and your parents see that you are willing to put in the time and effort on maintaining the empty cage, maybe it would be okay to try another cham. And, I agree with getting a cham a bit older and a variety that is cheaper than a Panther. That is a huge investment to be taking a chance on losing if they are having serious doubts. Very good suggestions! I hope they work out well for you.

Good News!!!

Thank you everyone for all your help! I wanted to say that I DID get my chaneleon, he is a veiled chaneleon and is about 4-5 inches long, I'll post some pictures...if you guys want...:D

Congrats on the Chameleon!!! I know it took me some time to convience my parents as well but well worth the wait. :D

Okay so iv'e been trying to get a chameleon since Christmas on 2011 but my parents wont trust me buying another one and today i saw one at the store and my patents are STILL not trustworthy to me! Here is the story why they don't trust me; So about a year ago I bought a chameleon off of a website that had chameleons (not going to say) and I had been learning on how to take care of chameleons for about 3 months, I already had all of the cage set up and everything, and the chameleon finally came in. My parents were happy for me having a a chameleon, but after the third day the chameleon started getting sick...a lot, and i couldn't get another one because the warranty was for only one day. So basically he had to we had him for 2 months until he sadly died, we couldn't do anything about it :(. We were guessing that the chameleon was already sick. Then about six months later I decided that i knew that i should have gotten the chameleon from a MORE reliable store, but when i finally did want to get him, my parents neglected my request, because they said that it was going to die again, and I was going to buy it with my own money. So then I said it's okay I'll try in a couple of months. And now is the time again, and just what you would have thought, they said NOOOOOOO BECAUSE IT IS GOING TO DIE!!!! AND BECAUSE THEY ARE TO SENSITIVE AND DIE EASILY!! That got me SOOO mad!! They still don't trust me no matter what I say!!! Please help me, I want to get a chameleon but my parents are to over protective!!!

personally man i would just go behind their backs with my own money, tell them it was my money and you should be proud i didnt go spend it on drugs.

Edit: i did some reading, grats on the cham man

...I don't think that's a good idea. I'm sure the parents would be pretty PO'd with that.

And congrats on the new cham! Wishing him good health! :D

Congrats! I was following your thread majority of the time and I think I may have even posted on it lol But I hope you enjoy the little guy!!!

Out of curiosity what was the vets opinion of what was wrong with it?
