My Phelsuma and chameleon room

I'm keeping ch. tr. rudis (or most likely sternfeldi) and ch. tr. cristatus, i've kept ch. cfr dilepis (most likely ch. quilensis or roperi) in the past. There are some pictures in the photography forums here.

When I saw the chameleon vivarium I thought "Vivarium? but that's a tr- ooooh"

Then I felt ridiculous.

Lovely setup, I can only dream about something like this. My version would have uroplatus though...

Holy moly.. I did a double take.. What a difference..and its soooo classy too... You didnt half @$$ it.. I love Day geckos.. I want one but they are pretty expensive here and hard to find. Nashville carries them but keeps them in a tank with 4-6 other species, such as Tokays and even frogs.. Not sure if thats the safest... So are the plants their free roam? How many cages do you have and are they all Gecko species? Wow.. Im still in awe.

I have 21 phelsuma cages (9 for adult pairs and 12 for raising juveniles and quarantaining adults) and 2 free range trees for chameleons

:eek::eek:

looks great, how much that all cost!!!!:eek::eek:

I have bought all my cages 2nd handed ;) paying between 25-50 euro for 1 cage ;) But yeah it's an expensive hobby! But on the other hand, if you are always out and drink and smoke you probably just pay the same :)

omg i was looking up phelsuma inexpectata on google images and i saw one that looked to be in a cage exactly like yours and someone was hand feeding it a powdery substance, did u post that pic on google by any chance?

i also noticed in the chameleon vivariums that i didnt see and linear uvb lights, r u using compact

sorry for double commenting

I indeed use compact low UV-B bulbs (repti-glo 2.0) and 1 mercury vapour bulb (at minimum 70cm from closest basking point) from T-rex (UV heat 100w flood)

You really want to have the lights projecting downward. Imagine driving down the street in your car with the sun in setting dead ahead of you..... but you have no sun visor to block the light..... pretty hard to see?:eek:

You said above you have 2.0 CFL lamps. These are worthless for providing UVB to a chameleon unless at CLOSE range.

You also said you have a MV lamp from T-Rex?

Give this a read: Link

This is my free range for Lenny, my female Melleri:

Lighting: two 36" 10.0 Zoo Med Reptisun lamps with a 100W heat lamp for heat. at 22" I get a very strong UVB reading in most areas of the range. The lamps are also 7 months old.
