My Pygmy Breeding thread

Good luck! I just got 1:2 bearded pygmys and they are so incredibly sweet! It will be awhile before they become friendly but I am reading about your experiences so I have something to look forward to. Good luck and keep posting.

I think one of my eggs is sweating. I'm not 100% sure.

It looks a bit wet, but it hasnt formed droplets as such.

This is such a learning curve, but i am loving it!

Day 98

have they arrived yet?
its like christmas morning rushing to the comp all the time to see if they have arrived!

day 98? darn what temps did you incubate mine came out in just alil over 60.. all four doin good...

Room temperature... 65 - 73 during the day

:(

The sweat on that one egg has gone. It was suggested that i should open one up, see whats going on in there. Not sure i really want to be doing that.

hi, I live in Ontario, Canada. I am looking for both pygmy and vieled chameleon babies.
Does anybody know of breeders in my province or country?

harry from chromachameleons, drew from chameleon nation both work with vields. pygmies, not too sure about. port credit pet center had some about a month back that looked like they needed a good home. there was another vendor at the ont reptile expo that had them but i forget the name.

Thanks for your replies mate,

Nah i wont open any, i seem to have more patience than the rest in my house, hehe :D I didnt think they'd get this excited!

I got melangaster fruit flys, but they really love pinheads its hard to see them doin anything cause there so small magnifing glass helps, the pics ive taken of my babies i see better thru the taken pics then when takin them...they will be along soon enough, i know how it is im waitin on nosy be eggs in the 9 month..

Gary!!!!!!!!!
Where are the little ones?
I had a surprise before! Went to take a plant out of the tank to put back in a pot with some fertilizer coz it seems to be getting battered in the tank with the locusts etc. Didnt notice that sheila had a "dirty Face". Lifted the pant out and low and behold................3 eggs - right underneath the plant roots so god knows how long she must have dug for to get under it, but not one sign of diggin in the tank. funny little creatures!

Thats so cool, another batch of eggs for you :D

Nope, nothing yet... these little monsters will have me grey at 26!

I got the tub out yesterday and shone the torch on them and all 4 gave a wiggle. Will they be stimulated by the light?
I cant believe they arent here yet... ive even started dreaming about them!! its nuts!!

:D

probably will get stimulated by light, it might be what they need to get them to break out of there little shells!
are they covered over with soil?
leave them uncovered slightly and in natural light and see what happens, but obviously not in direct sunlight.
so excited!

Poor sheila must not be happy with Kev, she only laid the last batch on 28th April.

Doh! the dates dont add up!
Must be Veronicas and Karls eggs coz Kev and Veronica were only put back in the other tank a week ago! surely Sheila could not have another batch so soon? that would mean she must have gotten pregnant again and laid eggs 27 days after laying the other? cant be right can it?

I think they may be duds or have died along the way... i mean its 109 days now :(

I cant trust my eyes, i swear they wiggle when stimulated by the light.

Cut one open mate, 109 days is so long! If they are wigglng then they must be big enough to cope with the real world!
Hope they are not duds mate. ; ) fingers crossed!

Ok... decided to 'meddle' with the eggs a little today... i couldnt just let them be anymore.

I didnt open any up.

Up until now all i've done is shine the little light over the tubs and look at the eggs that way. But today i took the lid off and did the same. They moved, all four! I got my sister in law and mum to have a look and they backed me up, so im not going mad :D Just grey! :p

I candled the eggs with the bulb (just set it along side the egg) and you could see their little bodies against the shells :D and they moved!

So they must be alive... just taking their time.

I moved them into another container with vermil... oh you know the stuff, hehe. I did this because one of the eggs looked a bit damaged and on closer inspection saw that there were a couple of tiny woodlouse in with them. There must have been eggs in the soil from the main enclosure. I was wondering if they would eat the shells for calcium?

I really cant wait, not now that i have seen them move in the shells :D

Day One Hundred and Eleven!!! And we have a littleboy :D

I came downstairs this morning to see this huge (but little) head with big eyes and two little arms pulling along a shell :) I checked on him again in the hour and his rear legs were still in the shell, so i placed my finger lightly on the shell and he literally just stepped out of it :D

He has been throwing stripes on and off during the day, has a pretty long tail and little ridges so i'm happy in saying he is a boy. I'll post pictures for confirmation when i've taken some.

He is currently in a small critter keeper with some ficus branches (thank you Aunty Peanut) and a little jungle gym i made out of tooth picks. I cut away the sharp tips.

I havent seen him drink, but have lightly misted the enclosure throughout the day. He hasnt shown interest in food yet, other than chasing it around... but i'm not too worried about that just yet :)

He has settled on a branch and is getting himself ready for bed :D

The remaining three eggs look as they did yesterday... but that means nothing, i mean this little chap didnt sweat or dent or anything before i went to bed.
Fingers crossed they will hatch soon.

Maybe the vermil... stuff was a better medium than the soil? Who knows :)

Hey Gary!!!! Congrats Grandpa! :p Lol! I think a huge congrats is in order! That must be the longest incubation of pyg eggs ever! Now we'll all be pestering you for your baby pics!:D:D:D:D
