hi my 3 months vailed has this thing in his butt idk what it is but it had when i bought it at pet smart in CT and its growing each day, some lady said his tails gonna fall off but im worried cuzz its in part of his legs too.. and he doesnt wanna eat! ps: i live in MA its ilegal to have chams , i cant bring to a vet !!

Not sure, what that is, but find a vet and get him to it ASAP!

It's a possibility it's a hemipenal prolapse, but it seems like it's spreading too far.

doesn't look like a prolapse to me. more like a severe burn or some weird sort of skin infection. I'd have to say you're really "stuck in a pickle" as Shakespeare would say.. Is it possible to drive him out of state? I'd say this is really vet worthy

i agree. if i were you i would be trying to contact someone out of state right now and see if you can do something. i understand you might not be able to do this at this exact second but it looks like a life or death injury without vet care. fill out the how to ask for help in the health section in the forum and paste it here. while your w8ing for a vet mabey we can help you with your cage lights humidity ect.

honestly them takeing it away might be for the best so you can start with something healthy. take it in and if they take it away they should heal it if possible, if they dont they will attempt to treat the animal. i dont see any true bad comeing from you takeing this cham to the vet. even if they do take it away we have sponcers you could order a healthy cham from and the one you have now would be given a new chance at life aswell.

If he does not see a vet he could possibly die. If they take him away he will at least have seen a vet and have a chance. You may need to make a selfless decision for your Cham

i have 15 days to return it and ive had it for 5 days i think, but the place is 4 hours drive and i love it and i dont wanna give it back to petsmart and since it had this thing before i bought it i dont think their gonna take care of it.. and i cant find the " how to ask " thing

Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
Location - Where are you geographically located?

He needs medical attention sometimes it is not what we want but what is best for the animal. It is not fair to them. Please take him back or to a local vet

Sadly, I agree, you need to take him back. It's possible they will do something to treat it. We have a member who has worked for Petco and he said they have a "credit card" they can use to pay for vet services for the in store animals. He at least has a chance that way.

Either take him to a reptile vet out of state, or take him back to PetSmart ASAP. It is PetSmart's company policy to diagnose and treat sick animals in their care, no matter what the cost. He will be better off there than getting worse every day with you. This looks like it could be a matter of life and death.

While I obviously understand your desire to own a cham, Ben is right that it may not be a good decision if it is illegal where you live, for exactly this reason. There wil be times when your cham will need to go to the vet, and it is unfair to the chameleon if he can't be provided with the proper vetrinary attention because you have to keep him hidden.

Is the petsmart you bought him at in CT? If so then they sold it illegally. Take it back and have them take it to a vet, then find out how they can sell it if you can't have it. But if you bought in outside CT, take it back even faster. They should have a vet who know how to treat the cham. You might want to ask if you can go see the cham at the vet's office. Then you would know what they are doing for it.jmo

The OP drove to Connecticut to buy the Chameleon so it's reasonable to suggest he can drive there again to either return the animal or take it to a vet.

How does MA handle legally owned pets that were purchased or moved from another state? Does MA's regulations say that chams cannot be owned without the proper permit? If so, get the permit! I moved to NJ with 3 exotic birds that were not on their legal pet list (which was basically only domestic poultry like chickens, pheasants, quail, or ducks). I had to show proof that the birds were legally purchased before a specific date in a state where they were legal, and get an exotic bird permit which was easy to do.

Regardless of legality, I would think any competent vet would treat an animal with such a serious problem out of compassion. I doubt they will demand to see proof of legality before treating it. This poor cham has no choice and will probably die without care.

if you just bought it... return it, they sold you a cham with a serious problem. chams should NEVER be bought from petsmart or petco those people are dumb as rocks when it comes to reptiles

i bought a ball python once there when i was a kid and it died a month lather from sicknesses, it was their fault and they did refund me. I would highly recommend not spending 1000's on vet bills for this animal, return the guy, and BUY FROM AN EXPERIENCED LOVING CHAMELEON BREEDER ON OUR FORUM!!!

you are going to pay out the ass for surgery and vet bills... trust me get a new one or another reptile that is healthy and not going to cost you tons
