My Veiled's eye is closed.

My veiled chameleon's left eye is closed.. *looks* a bit crusted on the inside.. I have been trying saline solution.. was recommended by an "online vet".. Just started yesterday. He opens his eyes for about 10-20 seconds.. then squeezes them back shut!

Cage is Screen, 36in tall, 24 wide, 12 across?
My Lighting - UVB 5.0, Heat Lamp.
Humidity... I can't keep it above 40 for some reason.. Bought a humidifier recently.
Chameleon is a Veiled, about 9 months old, had it for about a month.
I feed my chameleon twice a day calcium coated crickets, as many as he will eat. I normally mist the cham about 3 times a day.. Just doesn't seem to be enough. When I bought him he had a calcium buildup on his skin. It's going away.

I can't get any pictures at the moment, I am at a friends house to use the internet. Thank you!

EDIT: Does everyone have to treat me as if I know NOTHING about chams?

First...
How to ask for help
Here is some recommended information to include when asking for help in the health clinic forum. By providing this information, you will receive more accurate and beneficial responses. It might not be necessary to answer all these questions, but the more you provide the better. Please remember that even the most knowledgeable person can only guess at what your problem may be. Only an experienced reptile veterinarian who can directly examine your animal can give a true diagnosis of your chameleon's health.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage construction (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and type of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Location - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.
Current Problem - The current problem that you are concerned about.

Pictures are helpful

Second... please read the "veiled bible" written by Brad. http://raisingkittytheveiledchameleon.blogspot.com/

Could be a number of things he need to go to a real vet who is has chameleon experience. https://www.chameleonforums.com/veterinarian-resources-67/

I don't have much experience yet so I'll leave the "online diagnosing" to the experienced members. Good luck with him.

The air is very dry here and I'm wondering if that's part of the problem.. it's usually only 40% humidity and I know they need 50-75..

I don't know the temps. I'm not home. I would estimate 80-90 degrees. I'm using the squiggly bulb TEMPORARILY but he had this problem BEFORE I was using it, when I had the long one.

Clue us in on your temps...

A squiggly bulb can cause damage to their eyes. Please read this report.

http://www.uvguide.co.uk/phototherapyphosphor.htm

The temps in the room should be 72 - 75 with a basking spot 10 deg. higher. Chams are delicate creatures and something like too hot temps and the wrong bulb can make all the difference.

Yes, I know they cause damage.. that's why I said it was temporary.... and also said this happened BEFORE I was using it... It's temporary until I can get my UVB fixed.. I said 80-90 was an estimate, and that's at the basking spot.

You should never, ever estimate temps. And I would ditch the coiled UVB. Mist more and get some Terramycin ointment. Does the eye look red at all?

The only reason I'm estimating temps is because I'm not home.

It is TEMPORARY. Until I can get my UVB FIXED. Do I really have to repeat myself? The eye doesn't look red from what I can see. Black pupil and yellow eye.

Where would I get Terramycin ointment and what for?

No you dont have to repeat yourself, and I suggest if you really want help to lose the attitude.

Well said Chef-and sometimes you can find Terramycin at feedstores, and it is available online. It is something every chameleon owner should have-an antibiotic eye ointment.

I have no credit card to purchase anything online.. Do you think Petsmart would have it? I don't believe there are any reptile stores within 60 miles.

Ooooo...harsh my friend - you asked for advice; the Senior Members graciously offered aid and asked qualified, informed, educated questions; you guestimate answers and then get testy? Yes you did say the CF was temporary; yes you did say the eye condition was prexisting - the point the Senior Members are making that your cham may suffer from a specific condition and the CF you are using is guaranteed to worsen the situation.

I have never heard of Pet stores carrying it. you might want to call around.

I guess I'll have to talk someone into letting me use their credit card.. I'll look it up right now.. Hopefully they have something within my price range.. Bad paycheck this half of the month.

EDIT: Local drugstores have it? Is this the same Terramycin as you're talking about?

A humidifier would help get your temps up but I don't think that's the problem.
