HI everyone,
I have a 3-4 month old male veiled chamy... Last night I noticed that he was laying down on his right side on top of a leaf (he has a live plant in his cage)
I recently picked him up at the reptile expo... also I have notice that his color is a dull greenish brown when hes in his cage. When his out he cages to a bright green. My main concern is the whole laying down on his side. anyone ever heard of this and why he is doing this? :(

Can you post a pic of him doing it? Is he doing it while under his heat lamp? He could be soaking up the heat. Quite normal. Kath.

Hi. yeah is actually is doing it under the light. Hes been there all night. Im new to this forum so im trying to figure out how to upload his picture

Nope. there on the most 12 hours. I turn it off at night, I recently got him so I was just checking on him around 4 am and noticed it then

Is he leaning or laying? They lean over and flatten out to increase surface area to aid in digestion. Mine will lean to the side and look like a flounder almost. The darker color while basking is usually to absorb more heat like wearing a black t shirt verses a white one.

However if your Cham is laying down limp on a leaf unresponsive then no, that is not normal and you need a vet ASAP and mist mist mist. They usually fall out due to dehydration from lack if misting. They need misting 6-8x a day with complete drying of the cage between misting. Some people mist 4x, but IMO this is a minimum when used with a dripper system. I know I drink more than 4x a day and my Cham will too :)

Water that is. Lol

Im trying to post a picture of it, it looks like hes leaning to the right side. I do mist him 4x a day and he has a dripper. I just invested in a mister and it should be arriving today. Ive had a chamy before and never have seen this type of behavior. I have a vet appt for him as well today. I hope you can see the picture.

He looks good to me too. He is getting his bask on IMO plus that leaf looks hard to hold onto. You can get 50 cent wood doling (sic) sticks in the craft section. Very very thin ones perfect for those tiny feet.
