So I'm new to this I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong spot... I've been looking to get a chameleon for a while now I would say a couple months I've begun building my cage and really stoked about it!! I'm planning on having everything done before the Los Angeles repticon which is the 23&24 of this month if I'm not mistaken that's where I'm planning on buying my little guy I'm thinking getting a veiled but I also like the Jackson's I think the horns are awesome lol any input on what I should get and what to expect is welcomed thanks guys and girls ;)

Welcome!
Either are good choices.

Veileds can be tempermental, jax can to, but not always as often.

The care for both are very different though.

There are care sheets here on the forum you can read to tell you the specifics of each species.

Welcome to the forum. You might want to consider one of the sponsor breeders as well. Chameleon Paradise is in Northern Cal. I think Bruce just has Panthers. I think there are a few others local to you as well.

Its a great hobby, but I find I can spend money like crazy on them. Post pics of your cage when its all done.

I love my Jackson but Jackson's are touchy when they are young - read the care sheets carefully and also make sure if you decide to get one that isn't too young- and looks healthy if you go for a Jackson - if this is your first chameleon I would not get a Jackson under 5 months - and I would check out the classified and the sponsor breeders as well -The sticky on purchasing advise in the classified section is a must read so you'll know what to look for-

I believe Kammerflage Kreations will be there and they have gorgeous panthers if you change your mind and want one of those!!

Would you recomend a panther? If so why? I'm just looking for different input until the day of buying the little guy comes. Thank you

Panthers are considered hardier - more forgiving of newbies first time mistakes- but I think one of the reasons is that we don't hear the pet store horror stories as often- in the health clinic on this forum - I came to this forum because I didn't have a clue - and most of the information I had before was wrong. I think that with a healthy chameleon to start with and following the care sheets its not that hard - not that I don't still make mistakes - just I keep learning more and can provide better care as time goes on. Most of the time there's at least one thread in the health clinic from someone who got a not well chameleon at the pet store or a show without knowing what they were getting into- and didn't start out with a good choice for them - didn't have a set up ready to go before hand - With a Krammer (Kammerflage Kreations) chameleon you would know your baby had a good start - what every you decide the more you know the better luck you'll have -

lk: least you have made a good start and joined here before getting your new Chameleon. what ever Chameleon you pick if you are anything like me you will enjoy it more each day you have him/her/it. 2 months into being owned by a chameleon now and already planning on getting the next one.
have to admit though the one thing i'm finding hard is keeping the plants alive ( have a black thumb I once killed a plastic Bonsai tree)

When you go to the show make sure that they are healthy! I was super excited when I went to a show to pick up my panther thinking there was going to be a lot of options but there was only a few chameleons! I almost went home with a jackson because there was nothing else and he was pretty dehydrated. Be strong if there isn't anything there!

welcome to the forums and soon to be the world of chams..i would recommend depending on location as well. if you live where it is hot and dry most of the time it maybe harder to provide cooler temps and more humidity jacksons require..just a thought though. and happy hunting.

ditto what CaptDan said - I just got a panther from Bruce (Chameleon Paradise) and he is amazing. 7 ish months old and his color is amazing.

You may want to look at the list of vendors that will be at the show and reach out to them ahead of time and see what animals they will be bringing. That may give you an idea of who and what will be available - and how early you need to get there to get your choice.

Killing bonsais even Plastic ones

it's really quite easy for me, I went to the shops bought the plastic tree took it home put it on the windowsill as it looked really authentic/cool. Anyway long story short got called away to do some translation and when i returned half the leaves had fell off it
