New Blue Bar Ambi, Saphira

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to share a couple of pics of our latest addition, Saphira. She's a blue bar ambilobe that we picked up from LLL Reptile at the Sacramento Reptile Show a few weeks ago. I was going to try and post some pics sooner but my wife was having a hard time picking out a name and eventually settled on Saphira (one of the dragons from her Eragon books). Anywho here she is:):

Here she is when we first brought her home:

And here she is now:

We think she was about 2.5-3 months old when we brought her home and it's amazing how much she's grown and all the color she's gained in the six short weeks since then. The last set of pictures didn't wind up showing how blue she looked at the moment it was really surprising. We may be breeding her to our red body-blue bar male Loki once they're both old enough and healthy enough if they both keep growing as happy and healthy as they have been.

Thanks for looking,
Anthony

I might be seeing things wrong but your girl there has a hemipenal bulge. My guess is that is a Nosy Be male. If it is indeed a female she has way more color than I have seen on an ambi female. I hope I am wrong. But just incase, use caution when putting her with your male blue bar ;) JMO

:D Since I'm new I was afraid to say anything first but, yeah, looks like a beautiful boy and not a BB either. Nosey Be would be my guess also. My want to contact LL reptile and send pic. At least they should know what happened.

Yep, this sort of thing seems to happen a lot with LLL... one of the reasons I won't buy from them is because you never know what gender you'll really get.

Yes I do believe that is a boy not a girl. So name change maybe? And I don't think it is a nosey be for the simple fact that he has the ambilobe V bar in the middle of his abdomen and that a lot of the time is a characteristic of ambilobes. He does look decieving to be honest with u but I think it's just cuz he has really started to pop those super bring colors yet. But ofcourse I could be wrong.:p about the ambilobe part not that he is male because he is a male for sure.

Holy smokes do I feel dumb lol. I was actually worried that might be the case with how young she/he was when we got her/him... I'm pretty new to chams too but when we bought her/him from LLL there wasn't any sign of a bulge and the coloring was much more subdued (almost non-existent) compared to her/his clutch mates. They had about three different people look at and fondle the poor thing and they all came to the same conclusion of female though. Don't get me wrong, I'll be happy if it's a male Nosy Be since I was wanting to get one eventually anyways, but we were hoping to get a girlfriend for our little guy first. This little girl/guy will have a happy and healthy home either way.

Here are a few more pics of her/him and her/his nether region if you guys don't mind taking another look and helping make sure that she is actually a he. At some angles it looks like nothing is there but at other angles it looks like there might be a very small bulge but nothing like the more defined bulge of my other guy... What do you guys think?

Sorry for the crummy cell phone pics but I was in a hurry to take some pics after the sex confusion and didn't want to dig out and fumble with our actual camera... I would really appreciate your guys' feedback and help determining if it's a male or female and if it's a blue bar ambilobe or a nosy be.

Thanks everyone,

Anthony

He isn't as well hung as my Nosy Be Moe, but definitely a male (colors are unmistakable, most likely Nosy Be).

He is looking great though, what progress in 6 weeks! I just got a new little panther the same age Wednesday, and I hope mine matches that progress!

I had no doubt it was a male but wanted to break the news gently by saying "hope I am wrong". Its a rude awakening when you find that you did not get what you paid for, especially when it is something as expensive as a baby panther. Very easy to get attached too so not always an option to take it back.

Thanks for all of your input everyone. It's definitely disappointing that we didn't get the female we were looking for but on the up side we still have a healthy little guy that is showing some great colors at an early age. Looks like a new name is in order now though lol. I think we're going to keep our mythology theme going and with the awesome blues he's showing we are going to call him Poseidon.

One more question for everyone, how can I tell if he's a blue bar ambilobe or a nosy be? I agree with a lot of you that were saying nosy be with the colors he's showing but I remember reading what Sterlingcham had said about the V along the midsection being a sign of an ambilobe... What do you guys think?
