New cham, any suggestions

I got my chameleon yesterday. I've been thinking about it for a long time now, I work at a pet store and I've been learning about them and getting used to them before I made my choice to get one.

She is a young veiled Cham. She has lots of space to climb and move around. I have the thermometer and hydrometer at the bottom of the tank, but where is best?? Can she have too much humidity? It says like 80-90%, and the temp is around 75-80.

She was doing great day one. She ate a few crickets. I left her be for the most part other then misting and feeding. Now today she isn't eating. I've seen ones at work stop eating completely and eventually starve...is it normal for her to not eat everyday? Any suggestions? I'd like to get her to eat if possible. I have crickets and a multi vitamin powder I put on the crickets.

I have had a problem with a prolapse and with water [and some medicine] he lasted two weeks without food. But if it isn't eating it could be getting used to you i would keep trying and spray it.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your little girl. You've come to the right place for excellent knowledge and advice from great keepers.
No disrespect to where you work, but pet stores don't always give great advice and care info.
Here's jannbs blog on keeping veileds and panthers.

And check out the caresheets.

She may just be getting used to you, but please read caresheets as I think you need to get your supplement schedule right.
Pics are always good too.

Here is a picture. I think I'll call her Mango. Any idea how old she might be? I'll keep trying to get her to eat. I hope she eats soon :(

Shes very cute.. Just follow the links nd u should be good, id have 2 guess the same about age 3-4months old..

Is the temperature at the bottom the cage 75-80?

You said you have a multivitamin to dust the crickets with..she needs the insects to be dusted with a phosphorous - free calcium powder at most feedings to help make up for the usually poor ratio of calcium to phosphorous found in most feeder insects.

It's recommended that you dust twice a month with a phosphorous - free calcium D3 powder to ensure that the chameleon gets some D3 without overdosing it and leaving the chameleon to produce the rest of the D3 from its exposure to the UVB. D3 from supplements can build up in the system and lead to health issues while D3 from UVB exposure will not build up as long as the chameleon can move in and out of the UVB when it wants to.

It is also recommended that you dust twice a month with a vitamin powder that contains a beta carotene (prOformed) source of vitamin A. PrOformed sources of vitamin A cannot build up in the system but prEformed sources can so using this type of vitamin leaves control of the prEformed in your hands.

D3, vitamin A, phosphorous and calcium play an important part in bone health and need to be in balance. Appropriate temperatures aid in proper digestion and thus indirectly in the nutrient absorption.

I suppose you know that a female veiled chameleon can lay eggs without having mated once she reaches sexually maturity and it's important that she has a place to dig and lay the eggs in her cage?

At that age she should eat every day but soon can be fed every second day. Hopefully she is just settling in. Keep an eye on her and make sure her cage temperatures are right and hopefully she will eat.

Yes, I have the thermometer at the bottom, I'll check again tomorrow after the light is one for a bit to double check that temp. Can it be TOO humid?

I have exo terra chameleon multivitamin right now. Could you recommend names of other supplements I need?

I did know females lay eggs but I wasn't aware she needed to dig for it. I'll be looking that up, thank you.

So it's 70 at the bottom of the tank. Should it be higher then that or will she be able to get enough heat from climbing? She spends most of the day in the middle/top of branches

Yes I did, but I want to make sure I'm understanding properly.

I'm getting worried about her, she still won't eat. I haven't seen any poop that I know of so I'm not sure if she's impacted or not...Anything I can do to help her?

To avoid stressing her I haven't been touching her or spending a lot of time in the room with her until she settles in...

I use exo Terra multi vitamin 2 x a month, zoomed repti calcium without D3 every feeding and zoo med repti calcium with D3 2 x a month

new veiled

I noticed you said "tank"...Do you have her in a tank and not a screen enclosure? The humidity seems high. Have you read the breed specific info here and the caresheets for veileds? Great info, you should check it out
