Hello Everyone! I recently got a male veiled cham around 2 months old, i did a bunch of research but i still feel like i dont know enough so i am hoping u guys can give me a few tips.
He seems to not like me very much yet, always freezes when i come into the room and hides, Im trying my best to not stress him out but i gotta be around him to feed and water and all that.
Just yesterday i started noticing a few white spots on him and I was worried to death but it turns out he was just starting to shed which you can see in the pictures.
Chameleon Info:
• Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Veiled Cham, male, around 2 months, been with me 4 days
• Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
I havent yet
• Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
So far just crickets, hoping to get into new feeders in the next few weeks, 6-8 a day, half in the morning half in the afternoon, I have some dry gutload and also putting some fresh veggies in with them.
• Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
The zoo med dust repti cal, and reptivite, dusting without d3 everyday, with d3 twice a month and with vitamins once a month
• Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
I have an automatic mister for when i am not home and a hand mister, 3-4 times a day for 30-45 sec, I have seen him drinking off the leaves
• Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
First one was kinda yellow,then other ones have been darker and looks firm
• History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.
Cage Info:
• Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Screen 18"x18"x36"
• Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
75w basking blub, and a linear uvb 5.0 the one everyone recommends, lights on around 9am and off around 9pm
• Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
I got the basking spot to around 80-85, it was too high at first but got that fixed, rest of the cage falls to around 70, overnight temp is around 65-68, have a digital temp
• Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Its generally around 50, goes up to 70-80 after a misting, have a meter inside the screen
• Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Have a Ficus as the main plant in the middle with some pothos growing out of the ficus pot
• Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
In a room next to a window, there is an airvent in the room but it is turned to shoot the other way, the height is around 5 feet looking into getting a higher table to get it up a few more feet.
• Location - Where are you geographically located?
I am located just north of Orlando, FL
