Hello, I am new to the forums as well as new to chameleon keeping. I am looking for a male juvenile veiled chameleon. I do not have him yet but I’m hoping to get him soon! I just want to make sure that my husbandry is correct! Since I don’t have him yet, I will list what I am planning to do as well as what I am doing now. CAGE PICTURES BELOW
Cage = Reptibreeze XL (2ft by 2ft by 4ft) mesh cage with plastic attached on the right and left side as well as a vinyl backdrop attached to the back (cage is located in my room up off the ground high to the point where I need a stool to touch the top of it). The bottom of the cage has two trays along with 3 plants and 1 dying one T-T to collect any water/droppings.
Temperature = Day - mid to low 70s Night - 66°- 68° (68° is the ambient temp in my house)
Basking temperature = 84° (basking light is on thick chicken coop wire that has been folded & the basking branch is 8 inches & some change away from the light. I’m not sure if it should be closer but when I was checking my basking temp in that spot it was reading 84°F)
Humidity = Day - 42% Night - around the 50s after misting but I’m planning to run the fogger throughout the night (also I’m not sure if I should run the mister for longer in the morning to have a little bit higher humidity thru the day *1min 30s is morning misting time and 2min is night* so if you have any suggestions lmk!!
Lighting = Reptisun T5 HO 5.0 uvb bulb, plant Led light, & 50w basking bulb
Watering = I use a mistking with two nozzles that mist 2x a day, I’m going to be using a dripper for 2 hrs or so 2x a week, & a fogger at night
Plants = All live plants that I have researched to be fine for veileds as well as all natural branches that I slaved to collect and clean.
Feeding = Live Dubia roaches, crickets, bsf larvae, silk worms, & hornworms for treats. They get gut loaded with collards, carrots, apples, & mangos.
Supplementing = PangeaCal without D3 every feeding & Reptivite w/D3 twice a month. I will be feeding him either every other day or every day depending on how many months he is when I get him. *Ik juveniles get fed every other day but I’m not sure how old he is going to be when I get him*
All of the temperatures have been measured with a digital thermometer & hygrometer. The water being used for everything is distilled water. If there is anything wrong with my set up or how I am going to be doing things please let me know and correct me!!
