Another updated pic of my dude! He’s stills going! A few times I thought he was going down hill but seems to pull himself together. He hasn’t tried to snap or hiss at me he does puff up very big lol maybe he’s getting use to the daily handling? He’s moving around his enclosure a lot hasn’t been on the bottom. He does go onto his lower branches sometimes but not on the actual bottom. He’s on the same Branch in the pics cause it’s the easiest one to get him to head on after meds. He’s also been using his tail more.. lmk how his colors are looking. This is after his night time meds routine.

Hey guys wish I was coming on here with not need advise lol I sent this to the vet but wanna ask here to. One looks like he might be starting a shed? Is that a good sign? And the other I’m worried is a burn (idk how that would have happened noticed it yesterday) or he fell maybe? Also wonder if it’s his poop 
cause of the diet he’s on and stuff he’s been having white poop. One thing at a time vet doesn’t want you address poop until he’s in a better place. So let me now whats you guys think. First pics is what looks like flakey skin to me. 3rd is the white spot 
really hope I didn’t hurt him some how. It’s not fuzzy so I don’t think it’s a fungus. I just wiped his cage down sunday

I don’t believe either of those is a burn. The first spot that has a kind of yellowish tone to it does not appear to be start of shedding to my eyes. That one almost looks more like it could be a fungal growth than the white spot. Are you still giving him liquid nutrition? That spot looks like it could have been a drop of it that got on him and dried maybe. No idea about the white one. I doubt that it would be his urate. If it weren’t such a bright white, I’d say that one is the possible start of shedding.

Yes he is still on the liquid diet that would make sense because of the coloring. The white when is the one I was worried about because it literally appeared overnight.

I’m going to say to just keep a close eye on it. It could be the start of a shed. To rule out if it’s from urate or something else you could try wiping it with a wet q tip.

So the tan one is gone so it was food. lol and the white one is still there. and hes got a small like pin point white dot on the side so maybe he is shedding? what do I look for with this? is this a good sign that hes getting healthier? Do i wet him more? like whats the steps with this? feel like a first time over here...

Chameleons are dry shedders, so don’t wet him. Shedding can be a good sign that your husbandry is good and that he’s doing better. Shedding is a process we just let happen on it’s own and never pull any off. It’s not at all common, but it is possible for shed to get stuck and constrict around a limb or tail and that is the only time that we interfere.

thank you! I thought i read they were dry shedders and then i saw people on reddit when i googled the spot at first saying to spray them down to help them shed and i was thinking that wasnt correct. So i knew to come straight here lol How long does it usually take the full blown shed to start and happen or is that just different experience for each kinda thing? oh i hope is means hes getting better and i got his home right for him. that will make me so happy.

I’ve no idea what they do over on Reddit and am scared to go look.
Adults shed differently than the little ones who do the quick all over ‘poof’. Usually they shed this body part this time and then later another part, etc. I’ve got to think that he is improving as he’s still hanging on. It took a while for him to get in such bad shape and will take a while to heal from it. Have you given him a chance to eat on his own? Maybe try putting a feeder into a tall deli cup and leave it secured to where he can see it.

From what I've heard it's the Wild West over there on Reddit, so I stay far away from them. You've received, and will continue to receive a ton of great information here. Keep up the great work!

Reddit has advice that’s all over the place and they’re so insistent on things like trying to make chameleons drink from a glass, to avoid leaf licking, giving them showers when they shed despite them being dry shedders. All around a bunch of misinformation completely at odds with the forms, bill strand and other reputable sources.

Sadly I am taking baldar to the emergency vet. He threw up and suddenly took a turn for the worst.. it’s so sad that he will go days having good days then suddenly take a turn for the worst. I know vomiting is really bad 
hoping for the best. Nothing has changed in his environment. Everything’s been good husbandry wise. As far as I’m concerned I’ve been following everything the best I can. I’m unsure what changed over night. He was on the bottom with vomit. I got him up onto the spider plant called the vet and while on the phone with the vet, he tried to vomit again and it looked pretty violent. I’m so sad. Send positive vibes for him. I do have a poop sample to give them this time

I mentioned to the vet through the week he looked dehydrated cause of his eyes they instructed me to water his food down a little more so that’s what I’ve been doing to curve the dehydration. Like I said some days he looks really good and acts really healthy and then other days it’s like a switch flipped.Sadly I am taking baldar to the emergency vet.
