I just bought (2) baby veiled chameleons, first let me say I know they cannot be housed together, I have separate enclosures. I am in the process of putting plants in the enclosures. Is it safe to use fake plants?

Yes it is just make sure you wash it well. It's also good to use real plants. I recommend a ficus. You also have to wash the ficus and resoil with organic soil.

YUP.:)

Some will say to use silk plant as plastic can break and be swallowed...resulting in impaction.

I think that you will get a 50/50 split here for real vs faux. I have a combination of plant in my enclosure....

Hope that helps

Thanks, would you recommend washing with mild dish soap or no soap and lots of warm water? Also, these babies are so tiny I am having trouble finding crickets and worms small enough for them, I was told to be careful of choking. Any suppliers I should know about? Thanks a lot for the information.

Use fruit flies until they get old enough to handle the 1/4" crickets. Some reptile stores also carry the 2 week old crickets. Just check around. Maybe there are some people close to Ocala that can help you find a good store without having to order. I am down in Boca - not just a quick trip.

BTW, doesn't the store you purchased them from have adequate feeders?

Welcome to the forum.

In hawaii, we just leave some fruit out and either flies or fruit flies just start to appear....gnats may also make a good meal too.

If you order from Lucky Lure they will overnight you 500 pinheads for $14.00-order tonight or before 10AM tomorrow and you will have then Friday. Tell them Juli Shaw sent you. You can't wait too long-how old are they? Do you have your UVB lighting and supplements? Watch your temps-little babies should be in the low 80's for basking.

Yes, I have everything else, I am just having a terrible time finding food for them. I have spend about $50 in gas running all over town trying to find crickets small enough for them. I call these places and they tell me they have very small crickets and when I get there they just look too big to me. I was told to be careful of anything over sized, they might choke. Is this true?

as long as the insect is no longer than the width between your chameleon's eyes (essentially, his forehead), he will be fine.
The cricket you need is called "pin head."

Instead of wasting 50 dollars in gas, you should just order fruit flies online like what Juli said. The overnight shipping charges is about the same if not cheaper. :)

Lucky Lure's a very good place to order from. I have use them for a while....no problems! I call and order one day and crickets delivered the next. Jann

So you did not order? Now you will not get them if you order online until Tuesday. They cannot go very long without eating if they are very young.
