new chameleon owner

hi so i just got a veiled chameleon 2 days ago as a birthday present and so far i think its doing good. I just got new plants for the tank but im not sure where to put a food bowl or how often to feed him. The people at the store said to always keep some worms or crickets in a bowl in the cage but i couldnt make or find anywhere to put a bowl that the worms cant escape from. I have some bamboo in there and i just saw him try to eat some of the leaves and i have some devils ivy but i also couldnt figure out how to hang it at the top so he could eat those leaves too

I was also only able to get large superworms because they were the only ones that didnt have to go in the fridge and my mom would kill me if i put live worms in our fridge and i think they might be a bit too big for him to eat. can anyone send a link for a smaller worm that doesnt need to go in the fridge pls

okay so i managed to make a little stand and i hotglued a little bowl on it and put a worm but im not sure how well its going to work so i guess ill just find out in the morning and try to make a better one

Hi and welcome! I’m so very glad to have you here. Chameleon keeping is very often poorly understood by most pet stores and there is a huge amount of misinformation out there.
There are several different ways of using a feeding station. You can use a deli cup, bird cup or buy a special chameleon feeder. I like/use the shooting gallery from https://tkchameleons.com/ You will want to feed a variety of feeders and of the correct size. Anything larger than the space between your chameleon’s eyes is too big. You’ll also want to keep your feeder bugs well fed and healthy so that they are more nutritious. I’m attaching some graphics for you. Veileds are plant nibblers, so you’ll want only safe live plants in your enclosure. I hang my fake ones outside the enclosure for added privacy. Some of us use these ($1.50 @ Petco), but there are many other options. Most feeders (except crickets) can't climb out.

Some (like above) have hangers, and can be hung on a branch, dowel, or branch support system.

They're suggested to be stored in the fridge to extend lifetime & retard metamorphing into beetles & such. Supers are an exception, giant mealworms (which are treated with a hormone to retard metamorphing into beetles) are fridge-optional. I've kept giant mealworms for up to 6 months.

AFAIK, silkworm eggs need to be refrigerated; IDK about the hatched larvae.

Any kind of worms are best utilized as part of a balanced breakfast varied diet. Variety is important.

I hope your mom can come around on this. IME, good information is the best mind-changer.

thank you so much ill get some new food and get the devils ivy hung after i come back from school ! when i woke up this morning he was on the devils ivy and he ate the worm that was in the stand i made but the stand isnt very sturdy so ill have to get one of those too. thank you again !!
