Hello all. I am new to this site as my 10 Y.O. daughter is a new jackson chameleon mom. My wife and I are helping her learn how to care for him however, there is alot of contradictory info out there so I would welcome any and all advise from actual people who have actual real world knowledge. I have posted some pictured of him, named Axle, and of his new home. Please have a look and and let me kbow what you think. Thankyou to all. (^-^)

I think the setup looks great! Just add more plats, and/or leafy vines. They love privacy!!

Welcome to the forum and to the world of chameleons!

As Beelinn said you need more plants in the cage. What is the temperature in the basking area?
Is the chameleon sleeping during the day?
The chameleon looks a little thin and a little dehydrated but hopefully this can be remedied.

I haven't kept a Jacksons for a very long time now somi hope so done else on here will give you some advice too.

Do you know about supplements, feeding/gutloading the insects, watering the chameleon?

The temp averages 80, and only keep the one plant in there are he seems to hunt better when the crickets can't hide. And yea he is a bit thin, we got hime like that. He only eats ,3-5 crickets a day. We're working one that though

I have calcium and reptivite for him, calcium daily dusting and vites once a week dusting with calcium. I feed carrots, water and "cricket food" the store gave us to the crickets.

Jacksons are susceptible to edema likely caused by too much prEformed vitamin A... and reptivite has that in it so I would only use it once a month.

I would recommend that you feed the crickets a wide assortment of greens (dandelion greens, kale, endive, escarole, collards, etc) and veggies (squash, sweet potato, sweet red pepper, zucchini, etc) and a bit of fruit (berries, melon, apples, pears, etc).

Increasing the basking temperature a couple of degrees might make him eat more.

Also he sleeps at night for the most part, I turn off both his lights at night about 9pm and back on at about 7am.
