Hi everyone!! I have been reading and studying your forum for as much information as I can get on chameleons and their needs. I want to make sure I have everything it will need to be happy and healthy.. Does anyone else on the forum live in Scotland, my concern is the coldness!! I haven't got my Cham yet as I want to be armed with as much knowledge as possible as it will be my first.... Do I use glass or screen in this climate? One pet shop said use moss on the bottom but I thought the bottom was better clear so the wee guy wouldnt digest something it shouldn't? You just get so much conflicting information.. Any help would be awesome..

Welcome to the forums. This is a great place to learn about chameleons. As long as your house is heated you should be able to use a screen cage. The basking light will add extra heat to the enclosure. It is recommended to leave the bottom of the enclosure bare so your Cham want eat something that could harm him and it also makes cleaning easier. Was looking at getting a veiled. The house is heated just not all the time.. But can get pretty cold in the winter. I'm going looking for enclosures tomorrow and to talk to some people but would really like to find someone who 1. Will give me the right information and not what they are told to say and 2. Not try to put me off and try and sell me a different species altogether. But getting great information from reading this forum..

Hi and welcome to the forums! There may be one other member from Scotland on here. There are people from all over but I have not seen many from Scotland. As far as the moss, it is not recommended. The link that Jannb gave you should tell you most of what you need to purchase and how to set up a healthy environment for your chameleon.

Hey and welcome! I'm from just outside glasgow it depends on how cold your house generally is in the winter really. The room I have the 3 chams in never drops below the high 60s at night so I don't use any night time heating in their cages. Most people I've spoken to use wooden enclosures, probably pet shop recommended. I use an exo terra glass up until they are about 6 months then switch to reptibreeze xl, but that's just my preference. Don't use moss or any other pet shop bought substrate at the bottom. Bare or paper towels makes it easier and less of a risk.
