Hi, I just recently got a veiled boy off Craigslist, I have never had any reptile before, except my brothers mean iguana many years ago. He came in a 12 x 12 glass terrarium, and really I am glad I got him. I don't think he would have lived much longer in this cage. :( Only a red light on him, and crickets every now and then, and some nasty horrible moldy moss on the bottom. Regardless, his new cage and a mister should be here monday or tuesday.

Thanks, I was a bit overwhelmed at first, but now I have the crix colony down pat, and have a good schedule going so I'm feeling a little more confident. I'm sure I will have tons of questions as time goes by lol!

Ok here's my first question: when I go get live plants what do I have to do to them to prep them for the enclosure?

Wash the plant and the roots with soapy water, and replant in clean soil. I prefer to use a sterilized soil, it will come bug free compared to some of the organic soils I have used which gave me a nasty gnat infestation.

I just got a new schleffera from Home Depot for only $10, I would check there if you're looking for a good plant for your enclosure.

Welcome to the forums. This is a great place to learn about chameleons. He is such a little cutie! I keep veileds and they are such a pleasure to work with. I'm attaching my blog for you below. It will give you info on what you will need to keep this little guy healthy, links with pictures of what you need and where you can buy each item. Allot of these items you will not be able to find at a pet store. Keep us undated with his progress and post pictures of his growth. Jann

No, not a problem at all! In fact, if he doesn't have a UVB light, he won't live. It is needed for them to digest food, etc.

Now do I need a UVA light, or is sunlight a good alternative?

What is a good source for calcium(no D3)? I use cuttle bone for my parrots. Could I use that or should I buy a supplement?
