Well I am about to be a first time chameleon owner by placing my order today for a panther from Panther Company! I am so excited. Ive done hours of research and have my cage all set up. All I need is my baby :D I have planned to name him Dion, short for Dionysus, a mythological god. I am planning on investing in a monsoon and making a drainage system. Any hints or pointers for new owners? Ive been keeping up with threads on here and they have really helped me a lot! Thank y'all!

hey there, congrats on your new baby cham! the best advice I could give you is to refer back to the resource care sheets for panther chameleons often. Ask plenty of questions on this forum as well as read what others are going through.

If you can please post up a picture of your enclosure. If by chance there is anything you might need to add we can give our input.

I've not heard much about monsoon misters, I use a mistking personally and can tell you it is just awesome. But im sure there are others who have had the same experience with the monsoons.

so expect your chameleon to be a little stressed for a few days when you first get him and give him a week or two with no handling so he can adjust to his new home. make sure to give him plenty of crickets and water.

any other questions just ask

Chris

Heres the cage setup! I just placed my order for a monsoon from petco for only $80! Huge sale right now :D

Congratulations! I'm jealous, I was so tempted when I saw that ad to get a boy as well. Blue chameleons with some red are my favorite. But I can't spare the room right now, unfortunately.

Post some photos of your new guy when he arrives :)

Congratulations!! I got Blue Kai's baby as well about 3 weeks ago and he is awesome. He is very healthy, eats well and settled in nicely now. Enjoy your chameleon!! :)

Any pics?

Here are the pics. The first pic is on the first day I got him and I took the 2nd and the 3rd pics just now. He shed twice already (whole body + partial shed) and is showing some blue, red and yellow in his happy color. I'm very happy with him :)

Sorry to be a downer but would cancel your order for the monsoon. In my experience it is not a good piece of equipment. Spend the $20 some odd dollars more and get a mistking or aqua zamp. You won't regret it, both are great pieces of equipment.

Cages will be ok for about 6-9 months. You should graduate up to a 2x2x4 for a permanent enclosure. Agreed w/ other poster saying don't stop w/ more stuff, even for this cage. I love real plants, and lots of them. Gives a chameleon lots of places to hide and feel safe.

I have about a 10 month old male Nosy Be from Vinnie at the Panther Company. Sire is Vader. You gonna love your new guy. Please share pics of your new addition. Congrats.

BTW, buy your supplies and hardware as much as possible from Forum sponsors and not the big box movers. I've also heard numerous members talk about buying any misting packages other than monsoon. Apparently monsoons don't last long term.

Well this is the reason why I got so into this site! Thank you guys for the advice. And yes, my next enclosure will be an XL in a few months. He's only about 3 1/2 so I knew this would be fine for a couple of months. I just got a really good deal on it. More horizontal branches? Got it!:)

And then when it comes to the monsoon... Now I am really tempted to just return it and get the MistKing. That sale just caught my eye lol

Any more advice?

Just placed my order for a MistKing right now from LLLreptile! :D After reading reviews about the monsoon, I decided to take immediate action lol Monsoon will go straight back to Petco as soon as it reaches my doorstep.

Quick question:

Should I have my MistKing scheduled to go on at any time throughout the night? If not, what's the latest it should go on? Earliest?

No mistings wanted after hours. You want to enclosure to be able to dry out prior to lights out, so the last misting time you are going to have to figure out. I would imagine a hour or two before lights out should do the trick.

I like to let my cham warm up a bit in the mornings before feeding or misting. He drinks from his dripper right off the bat once he wakes up, but I would wait a hour or so again before mistings.
