Hello all My names Duey!

Im new to the forum and New to being a dad of my new Male Veiled Chameleon named Abe. I purchased Abe from a local breeder with great reviews about 2 days ago. I have done a lot of research and have wanted a chameleon since I was a kid. He was born on 7/3/2016 hes 4 months old. I am posting a couple pictures of abe and his enclosure that i built myself. I have got a Ficus tree plant and a Pothos plant in there right now. I have two bendable vines in there for him. I have a couple questions regarding him and his enclosure.

Do you think his setup has to much in there?
Anything that you would recommend me do about his enclosure? Like add or remove anything?

Also I haven't had him but two days and hes still seems stressed? Is that normal?

I have is basking area at around 85-93 degrees and im using a reptisun 10.0 uvb bulb.
I was told by the breeder to just use a halogen floodlight from Walmart. is that true?

Take a look at the pics and recommend anything :)

Hello Welcome! You enclosure looks better than most ppl just starting out good job. First you really cant have enough foilage and vines and hiding places so dont worry about that. The 10.0 is a pretty powerful UVB light for a smaller sized enclosure I would make sure it is not too close same goes for the heat all you really need is any normal house lightbulb for heat just make sure it does not get too hot for a young one I think most like the basking temp under 90 because chams cannot feel when they are being burned so a casque burn can easily happen. What are you feeding your fella and how does he get water?

Also its very common for them to be stressed for much longer than a few days after a change just try to be very slow and steady anytime he can see you or u go near the cage it will probably take months for him to be truly comfortable around you pbut if you dont mishandle it will happen. A good way to gain trust is to start to handfeed them first thing in the morning when they are good and hungry.

Also if you ever plan to handle him learn the correct way to pick em up because 1 time trying to pick them up the wrongway and it will take him a year to forget about it lol.

i have a mansoon misting system plus a dripper for water. the misting system goes on ever 4 hours for 20 sec. im gonna hand feed him more. what is the right way to pick him up?

also i have another question whats the right way to feed him? like the dusting with calcium and when should i dust them?

Well never from above you want to slowly come from below from under them. Google search it

Well check care sheets for specifics but most of your staple feeders need dusted with calcium without D3 virtually every day depending on age and he needs vitamins to be dusted a few times a month.

Just check his poop it should be brown connected to white if its runny or orange your cham could have parasites or be dehydrated (if poop is orange) you need to up your misting try to use the best quality of water for your cham also

This should give you the general idea of how to pick them up. Welcome to the forum
