Hey guys whats going on? Been researching and reading this forum for a month or more. And I have decided to join and Purchase a Cham. Now I just have a few concerns and questions on what I should get for a Novice Handler and Cham.

1. Should I get a cham that is a juvie, couple months old or one that is 4-5 months old?

2. What is everyone using for a Mister or dripper?

3. Do you guys use More Real Plants or Fake ones?

4. Do you guys prefer to use Outdoor sticks or store bought?

5. What are some recommended sites to purchase supplies?

6. Any Links that I should be aware of and read more upon?

Thanks guys sorry for Im sure a Double or Triple post from other members, but I am always one to hear it again, or make sure I am doing something right before I actually go and do it. All advice and info would be Appreciated thank you :D

Welcome to the forums. This is a great place to learn about chameleons and meet other chameleon keepers. Are you looking to buy a veiled or panther? If a panther I'd definitely recommend a 4 or 5 month old. IMHO I think the most important thing is to buy from a small time breeder that has spend allot of time and loving care to their animals and not just looking to make a buck. I have a blog linked below for new keepers and it will answer your questions above.

I have a local Reptile shop that has them and is the cheapest I have found even WAY cheaper then the pet stores. Im trying to stay clear of pet stores. And this place was told to me by a fellow freind who owns a Bearded dragon.

He says they are 4-5 month old veils I was hoping to get one a lil younger but what do you think?

And thanks for the link:D

4-5 months is perfect. You don't want one to young being your first. Do you know anything about the one at the reptile shop.

Nope. Just called them asked if they had any. He said he had 1 panther and 5 veiled. So Im going to go there tomm. Check them out. But not really sure what to ask him. I just been reading blogs, what people say online for what to look for you could say.

First welcome to the forum and your new addiction. Given the choice I would go with the older chameleon. Assuming that it is of good health. A well established older chameleon will have a greater survival rate and have a bit more allowance for mistakes during your learning curve.

My guess is that they still buy them at wholesale breeders. I see an ad for a company all the time for veiled. Those are the ones that seem to take longer to bond. See if they can show photos of the parents or tell you anything about where they came from. The one I bought from a reptile store was in great health but they couldn't tell me anything about where they bought it from. For me I should have walked away but after waiting 4 years and price on this one was perfect. Now it was not a cham but the ones I was looking at normally run 600.00 to 1,000.00. So for the price of 200.00 it was a steal. Turns out she is a she and took 2 years to settle down and now I can once in a while hold her. She is and will always be my little princess of reptiles. Just wish she knew that.
