I came into care of a female Veiled Chameleon about 3-4 weeks ago and i recently noticed this yellow area around her right hind leg, a small black dot towards the top of her head/crest and also her front left ankle seems yellowish as well and i’m kind of worried that there might be something wrong with her. I’m looking for more of an expert opinion on it and if anybody can give me their input on it I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi there, and welcome on here, she’s a cutie!
The yellow looks to be fungal, do you have a chameleon vet near you? If not, we have vet lists, just tell us which country you live in

Thank you! Her name is Ivy and yes I contacted one a while ago in case I need to make an appointment. I had a feeling it could have been a fungal infection but I wasn't too sure since I couldn’t find images that resembled what she has. What would be the main cause of fungus? When I first received her it was a tiny yellow spot but since i’m new to owning one I didn’t know what to expect.

I’m not too knowledgeable on fungal infection sources, but I know two are old injuries and contagion from another animal. Do you have any other reptiles? Fungal infections can turn deadly depending on the type of fungus and level of infection, so I’d take her in ASAP. Do you know if your vet has chameleon experience?

I have a pet bearded dragon but i have him completely separated in another cage in another room. And im not too sure on the experience of the vet since it would be my first time going to visit, I called and the lady operating the front desk told me they have a vet who sis skilled with reptiles.

I will be no help with this, but I just want to say hi and welcome to the community! She’s a cutie. I have to ask since you are new, if you have a lay bin set up for her. She will lay infertile eggs even without a male and she will need a bin to dig and lay in.
Thank you! And i don’t yet, not really too sure how to set one up for her or any idea what they would look like but im open to any advice!

Have you been washing your hands in between handling them and not cross-contaminating any supplies, tools, feeders, etc? Reptile experience vs chameleon experience is very different in vets. Where do you live? A member might have a good vet near you!

Hi and welcome. :) Here’s a blog I did on the special care our little ladies need. https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/veiled-chameleon-laying-101.2488/
Your cutie will need a biopsy to determine what exactly those spots are. Here is some info on one of the more serious and contagious types of fungal infections. Do make sure to mention this one, CANV to your vet and have them test for it. These are all posts from @kinyonga who is one of our most experienced members.

Hello and welcome! I know she is molting and probably temperamental right now, but she looks dehydrated to me. Also the yellow patches don't look right to me. When they are angry or scared they will change colors to let you know. When mine has yellow in his legs and black dots it means he is angry. But I must agree that looks more like a fungal or bacterial infection. chameleons hide sickness and usually it is severe before you notice and get them to a vet so go asap. Also take a sewing pin and a plastic cup and poke one hole in the bottom, as small as possible, fill the cups with ice cubes and set it on top of the screen positioned over a plant so it will drip onto leaves. How old is she?

I have actually and have been careful to not handle one or the other within the same day. I stay in fort worth so if there any good recommendation I would highly appreciate them!

I also thought she was hydrated but i’ve seen her drink water from a cup i have suctioned cupped up against the wall. And thank you for the dripper idea I never thought of that! And to be honest I don’t know how old she is and it’s my fault for completely forgetting to ask when i first purchased her :/

Do you only use a cup for her hydration needs?

I have a mister inside of the cage and have it set on a timer to spray every so often and I turn it off at night before i turn off her lights, the small cup I use for her to drink out of and I change out her water on a daily.
How long is each misting, and at what times during the day is she misted?
How often are you cleaning out the cup? The majority of keepers (except for Reddit-not a good source for info) use misting and cool-mist fogging (if temps are low enough at night), along with supplementary dripping for hydration, not cups. But it’s all good, no one starts out perfect, and we’re all here to learn!

It has a setting based off seconds for example (15s, 30s, 45s and 60s). Right now i have it set to 30s every 8hrs but im not sure if it’s too much or too less. I clean the cup every day in the morning before going to work and refill it with clean water. I just read someone’s comment on this post about making a dripper out of a plastic cup so i just got done creating one and setting it on top of the terrarium.

For chameleons, each misting should be at least 2 minutes long (or longer), as that is the minimum amount of time to trigger a drinking response. I’m guessing you have a ReptiRain? Those are sadly no good, so you’ll want to get either a CliMist or MistKing automatic misting system (if you can afford it) and/or a pressurized sprayer (the chemical pump sprayers at Harbor Freight, Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc are cheap and hold lots of water!) instead. Misting times should be around lights on and lights off, but if your humidity is dropping too much during the day, you can add in a late afternoon misting, as well. You can also do short spurts of misting during the night to help with humidity if there’s enough air flow in your cage. For drippers, make sure the water droplets hit a plant /leaf at/near the top of the cage and hit multiple other leaves on the way down so she has different options!

This is actually the brand that I have but i just ordered a humidifier as well cause i feel like a humidifier might work better and i ordered a new hygro-meter because i feel the one that came with the terrarium is very inaccurate so i can’t say if the humidity levels are dropping immensely or not.

If it doesn’t offer at least a 2 minute setting, it’s no good, I’m sorry! Do you know if the humidifier is cool mist or warm mist? May I ask what type of cage she is in, and if the new hygrometer you ordered is digital?
