i was looking for a Repti-sun after it was recamended by a member of this forum but i could not find one only this on and Repti-Glow but i was advised that repti-glow was unsafe...

Hi Youngsta!

The Repti-Glo long tube isn't unsafe, just not as good as the Repti-Sun.

You could swap the tube in your new fixture with a Repti-Glo 5.0 (I don't trust the tube that comes with it) or order a Repti-Sun for that matter. Or just return the fixture you bought, get the proper tube (Glo or Sun) and pick up a cheap florescent fixture at your local Walmart. (sorry to suggest another runaround)
Just make sure whatever fixture you use has no extra plastic or glass lens in the way.

Good to see you getting aggressive about it. Bodes well for your chameleon's future!

This is a great fixture once you remove the plastic lens that is over the bulb. I have several of them and I simply switch out the bulb that comes with it for a Zoomed Reptisun 18" 5.0.

Yup, I agree:

You don't have to change a thing with the exception of removing the clear plastic lens. it is good light. don't need to change the bulb.

It would be fine for a few days, but the bulb that comes in it is not a good bulb.

Howdy Jorge,

Funny about that fixture... Many of us use it since it was sometimes available at a fairly reasonable "on sale" price from time-to-time. Mine have worked fine for years. As Julirs mentioned, just remove the plastic "UVB filter" and immediately replace the tube with either the 1st choice of the Reptisun 5.0 or the 2nd choice (in this case) of the Repti-Glo 8.0 or 5.0 tube.

Here's that D3 Index Chart that I just recently included in a post about UVB lighting. Note where the ESU products rank in terms of D3 Index :(: http://personal.inet.fi/private/testudo/Pages/Table 4.html.

Coincidentally, when I visited tbs350z last week, I saw his new Zoomed 18" fixture. Zoomed recently released this new fixture. It looks like a nice, well constructed fixture to complement the 18" Reptisun 5.0 linear tube :). I sent an email to Zoomed inquiring about its ballast as to whether it is a transformer type or electronic ballast. Electronic ballasts are supposed to be better. (ESU uses a transformer type ballast.)
