Newbie to chamelons and forum

well i have a vet appointment on friday to get randall checked out. But i wantenet to know more about what people have found on the repti glo 5.0 26w compact bulbs are these really causing eye problems?

well i went and exchanged it for a tube light. And of right now its lights out for my buddy. so the question now is the light fixture i got is the zoo med which came with a t8 15w dessert 50 bulb. is this the same as a 5.0 or do i need to go get the repti- sun 5.0 uv bulb?

Thats alright maybe some one else will know i want to make sure i get the right bulb before i turn it on tomorrow any suggestions this is the fixture i got. i am ok if i have to get a different bulb http://www.petco.com/product/14564/Zilla-Slimline-Desert-50-UVB-T8-Fluorescent-Fixture.aspx

Hi welcome to the forum!! I noticed that you're going to take your little guy to the vet and after reading this thread I think that you're being a great responsible owner. The light you picked out is too strong for your cham..It's made for desert animals not for tropical like a cham. This is the type of light you need to get http://www.petco.com/product/6352/Z...pping_ReptileSupplies_BeardedDragons_Lighting

Hope this helps :)

it looks like a Zilla, and i believe some lights from them can make your cham sick

its recommended to get zoomed Reptisun 5.0 linear bulb

repti-glo works too i guess, idk about compact bulbs

and besides the one you showed is a desert light, might b way too strong for chams..

goodluck:cool:

MAtt why don't you just take it back and get the Reptisun 5.0?. That is what most of use and we never have any issues. Why take a chance with that other bulb?. There was a post on here yesterday and the girls cham is very sick and they suspect it is the light. Now it is not the same manufacturer but read this, it was posted by Dave Wheldon: WAIT JUST SAW YOUR LINK TO PETCO AND IT IS A ZILLA, you said ZOO MED, READ BELOW and GET RID OF IT PRONTO!!!!

Howdy,

Remove the R-Zilla T-8. A looooong story short, (if it is the R-Zilla model that we're used to hearing about) these are know to cause exactly what you've described... and worse.... You can search R-Zilla on this site and read the horror stories. He should fully recover within a few days . Use a ZooMed Reptisun 5.0 LINEAR tube of any length. Try LLL reptile online for good deals on that tube. What part of the world are you located?

The worst offenders were the original R-Zilla Desert series 50 in their T-5 package. They reformulated the phosphor to correct the problem but the final results of independent testing have not been put on the UVGuide UK site yet to confirm their safety and effectiveness.

I don't know anything about the Reptiglo but you should be fine. Also, these bulbs should be changed out on a regular basis every 6+ months or so. Even though they do not burn out they lose their strength. Just so you know! Glad you got rid of the other bulb. I know you are trying to do the right thing for you chameleon!
