Hi all!!

I'm a newbie to the forum and chameleons too!! I've just put a deposit down on a baby Panther which hatched a couple of weeks ago. The breeder/owner of the reptile store said he should be ok to bring home in 3 months. Can't wait and really excited!!

I've done lots of research and read lots of relevant threads on here so thanks for all of your advice/tips. Anything in particular to keep in mind???

Hello there and welcome 2 the forum :D

You came to the right place for all the info you need to keep your new cham healthy and happy.
This whole website is a vast library of great info like nothing else on the net.

Be sure to read through the general husbandry stickies :)

It's usually suggest that you get everything set up and ready for your new
little guy/girl to make them comfortable. :)

Thanks for the replies!

@ChameleonKev - nothing I'm unsure of at the moment. I'm sure this will change and I'll be asking lots more questions as soon as I get him!

@Psychobunny - Thanks! Yes i'm working my way through all of the husbandry threads at the moment.

Really can't wait to get the little guy!!!

Really can't wait to get the little guy!!!

I had to wait 3 months for my little Squee. He will be 1 year old next month,
and he is the sweetest and tamest (is that a word??) panther I have ever seen.
The waiting was worth it, but it seemed like forever!!
I had his cage and lights all ready, and I would walk by it and look at it, wishing my new little guy was in it!!

I'm confused!

Most of the lietrature I've found says to not have any substrate in the cage as it's prone to mould/diseases/bacteria etc etc. Does this mean that it would be better to keep fake plants as opposed to a real ones so there is no soil/dirt in the cage???

Any thoughts?

Personally, I use all fake stuff, but it's mainly because I have 4 cages to
maintain and I am normally short on time except on weekends.

Live plants are ideal. Most ppl put large rocks over the soil to prevent their
chams from digging around and eating little chunks of bad stuff.

There are a few other tricks as well, like putting plastic net 'gutter guard'
over the pots!!
