nosey be setup

i just got a pair of nosey be chameleons and been trying to set them up the proper way ive been figuring out if they were going inside or outside so i decided to leave them outside since i live in sunny south florida (miami)

make sure to put a divider between the cages so they cannot see one another. I live in Florida also. The weather is getting nice and it will be fine for them outside. Just be careful in the "winter" months as we do get some cold night. I would say if it is gonna get below 50 degrees to bring them inside. Also, during the summer be very careful as you have an aluminun awning which retains the heat. I have a large screen patio also with aluminum roof and it is way too hot in the summer to keep them in there. It gets like an oven.

Beautiful Be's! I see you went with the DIY cages! You wont be disappointed! Will you be showing us a step-by-step install of the misting system? It would be appreciated! Also, what is that you're building on top of the cages? Support for plants or to hang lights from?

seeing you are going to be outside in the sun Hibiscus will work great. I use Sheffelera and Ficus and they grow tall and full. They are chameleon safe too. Mostly likely your panthers will not eat the plants. Alot of Veilds do, so you have to be careful that they are not toxic but in general the panthers are not plant eaters.

what about Lowes?. Walmart too. If not, you can just try any of the nurseries. All mine carry all three plants.

do you by chance belong to BJ's wholesale club or know someone that does. Mine always sells plants on the ends of the aisles and they have hibiscus trees quite often. They are really nice and cheap for their size!

Welcome to the forum. I too have an outdoor enclosure and a Nosy Be that will be in there once it warms up. Right now he's inside getting bigger and living in a DIY cage.

I hate to put any damper on your project, but from one Floridian to another, you know you are going to be re-building your entire stand and frame in a couple to few years. Without sealing or using treated lumber its gonna rot in our humid climate, and then add the potential 3 times a day mistings and the moisture has just compounded itself. I would also work on some kind of a drainage system. At least just to direct all to excess water away from the wood. Having it just drip off the edges of the bottom piece will have it constantly in contact w/ your stand. With an idea that Jim from Chameleon Company helped me out with, I'm following his lead and lifting my enclosure completely off the ground w/ metal fence stakes, and then lining the edge w/ roof flashing that will be buried in the ground about 12"s. I want as little contact w/ standing water and the ground even with my enclosure being built out of treated lumber.

As for the plants, keep adding more in there. If you can't find any ficus or hibiscus at the nurseries, go talk w/ the manager at Home Depot / Lowes and ask them to bring some in for you. I see both quite often at the big home stores around here. Hibiscus are there normally, its the ficus that I find hard to track down. Don't forget plenty of vine pathways either. Another good plant to use that is readily available are pathos. Keep going, you have a great start.
