Nosy Be color standards?

I was looking to get into nosy bes this coming month. I have seen many out there for sale. Lots with white and yellow lip, light red rain, red in the face and ALOT with a "green glow" that people are calling "true blue".

The male that i would consider as a true blue would carry the following genes- white lip, full blue, no red, no green.

I was wondering what everyone else considers a real nosy be and if anyone is selling males or females from lines that would meet my quality standards.

Nosy Be's have a significant amount of variation, as you have described in your post. I would consider them all Nosy Be. JannB went to Nosy Be this year, and posted a lot of pics of chameleons she encountered there. They were, for the most part, green to greenish blue with black bars.

The "true blue" Nosy Bes have been selective bred to bring out the blue trait, although it doesn't seem prominent in nature.

In many pics from the wild the nosy be seems to have alot more green and significant barring. In captivity however they have been bred to produce the " true blue " and as such often have an almost electric blue color.
IMO a CB nosy be is often soild blue with a lateral white strip and yellow/green lips and cheeks with slight red rain around the face.
Fired up the yellows and reds will become more prominant and dark eye spokes and barring may appear.

I like the "True Blue" Nosy Be look and prefer them not to have red rain. I also like a half yellow lip. Here is my Nosy be, Plasma.

Also, in my opinion, unless you buy a full grown male, you don't know how the color is going to turn out

Very, very true. My clutches will produce a variety of different appearances. Some get red eyes, red rain, etc. Where others are solid blue or greenish.

That is another thing i am worried about getting into this locale. Getting a male will be the first problem and getting a female from a full blue line is another story. Plus i will want atleast 2 females.

I don't generally like nosy bes much, but I really prefer the green/yellow ones or the greenish-blue ones. I really, really liked olympia's male that she had before. The wild nosy bes tend to me much more green than in captivity. I have also heard from people who have had wild caught males, that they tend to loose their green and turn blue over time in captivity.

I would love to see what some of the not so blue nosy bes look like I have been speaking with Tom kilgour about purchasing one from him when they are ready to be shipped out.

just google nosy be and youll see them in all different colors. I guess its more of a personal preference

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. Nosy Be is one of my favorite locales. It is quite stunning to see a bright blue Nosy be in person. No too often you see that kind of blue on a reptile. I do like all the variants, and all make very pretty chameleons. You really can't go wrong with any Nosy Be.

"Black&Blue" Nose be

He is a pretty looking Nosy be. Believe it or not my guy will also show black barring from time to time.
