When ever I hold my chameleon chazam jr ;) I pick him up and he immediately opens his mouth and try's biting me. He's already bit me once by the way. Then my dad will go in the cage grab him a couple hours later and hold him. He won't even puff up or attempt to bit him just sits in his hand doesn't even try to escape.
Why does he try to bit me and not my dad?

Don't think ( grabbing him ) is a good idea. Try hand feading him. Be patient and introduce a stick. Place it in front of his front legs and let him step on. It's a good idea to master this as you never know if you need a vet visit and it would be more stressfull if you can't handle him.:)

I didnt really mean grab him what I do is make sure he knows my hand is there and slide my hand under his chin and he usually walks on to it.

That's good. Keep doing it and he will get used to you. If all else fails you can borrow Maxttus! LOL famous glove

I have 3 chams ... Winter ( my veiled ) , Lucky ( my jax ) , and Chip ( my graceful ) . Winter wants nothing to do with being handled , even though she'll eat from a cup I'm holding ( then when she's done I get this " I'm finished ... you may leave , peasant " look ... lol ) , Lucky doesn't mind being held ... once I get her out , she just climbs all over me . She even climbed up my mom's hair and sat atop her head once when I was visiting ... lol . Chip ... well , Chip was neglected before I got him and he has damaged feet to show for it . Although he won't let me hold him yet , he doesn't get aggressive towards me when I reach in like Winter does . I once was cup feeding him and a cricket crawled onto his face and sat near his eye . I slowly moved my finger towards his face and gently nudged the cricket off . Not once did he show any aggression . Even though this is the long-winded way of telling you this , my point is ( yes , I have one ... lol ) is that they all have their own personalities and you just have to accept them the way they are and respect them . Winter will probably never let me hold her and I'm ok with that . I hold hope for him to someday let me hold him . Lucky ... well , she's been a little ray of sunshine since day 1 . Ok , I'll shut up now ( this is another reason I usually only post smiley's ... lol )

I try not to handle my chameleons unless it is necessary -- but I wanted to add this comment!

My Jackson's is only used to me. Obviously he still doesn't like it when my big ol' hand comes into his cage (unless it's bringing him food), but when I took him to the vet a month or so ago, he really acted differently. I took him out of his travel cage (obviously he was nervous but not too scared), and had him walk out onto my hand/arm. The doctor came by and he would not have anything to do with her! even when he was basically forced to walk onto her hand for a check-up, he was hissing and such (which I've never seen him do!).

Glad to know he knows me best. :)
