Need to vent about this. I had to remove a picture from Chandler's Instagram account because I was tired of one person trying to make me look bad.
First a bit of background, Chandler was starting to lose strength in his right rear leg a few weeks ago, and after searching on this forum, I narrowed it down to constipation or impaction. I immediately started with more frequent warm misting sessions, and after not seeing any results, tried to give him a few showers, much to his dismay and my frustration as he ran away from the backsplash spray and was extremely stressed out by the shower. Unfortunately the shower didn't work so I was left with a warm, shallow soak, which I unfortunately had to use a bathtub for, but made sure to put some branches in so he wouldn't get stressed out. However, Chandler being Chandler, he decided to take a walk off of the branch and into the shallower end of the tub and quickly realized he didn't like this. I quickly got a picture before removing him from the tub all together. About 5 minutes later, he took the biggest, foulest smelling poop ever and has since regained full strength in his rear legs.
This was the image in question, which was captioned with: I've had a long, tough day.
Someone commented that you should never give your chameleon a bath or soak, only showers or warm misting. After viewing their account, I noticed that they had a male veiled chameleon and also immediately noticed some concerning issues with their care. Mainly the cage being way too small and the presence of fake foliage in the cage and not a bit of living foliage.
I proceeded to send them a personal message explaining the background to the photo and that there are certain instances in which a warm soak or warm shallow bath is required to be given to a chameleon, such as a prolapse or impaction. I then pointed out the concerns I could see with their setup and recommended that they join here as it is a valuable resource for chameleon care. It ended with them commenting that they are getting a larger cage tomorrow for their chameleon and them blocking both my personal Instagram account as well as Chandler's.
Long story short, it frustrates me that I had to take the photo down because someone assumes that I regularly give Chandler bathes, this was his first and hopefully only instance of having a bath. It further irritates me that they had clearly not fully researched the chameleon breed they had gotten and were risking well being. They even had the audacity to tag some small scale breeder in their last comment to support them saying that you should never give a chameleon a warm soak or warm shallow bath.
