One eye closed

Hello everyone,

Over the last few days we have noticed our 3 month old veiled chameleon has been keeping one of his eyes closed for periods of time. At times he has it open and it the eye itself looks totally normal in appearance, he has slightly darkened areas under both eyes. Other times he keeps his right eye closed for quite a while, and seems to be rolling his eye around, making it look sunken into his head.

We are very good about his lighting, heating, humidity, feeding, and daily multivitamins. We've been reading about how chameleons commonly get debris stuck in their eyes, we think this may be what's happening. Any advice/similar stories? Thank you!

If he has something stuck in his eye, you may be able to help him by putting him on a plant or branch in the shower with water bouncing off the wall onto him. The mist will allow him to clear his eye.

If there is nothing in his eye, it may be a vitamin A deficiency, see post #6 in the thread below:

He should not be getting multivitamin every day. He should get plain calcium on every feeding, calcium with D3 twice a month, and multivitamin twice a month.

Can you fill out the help form?
