Life isn't easy that's for sure, and it never will be. Tonight another thing hit our family. We had a house fire start at 7:00 PM in our bathroom due to our breakers catching on fire. We could have lost everything. Thankfully we had a small fire extinguisher in our hall closet that helped contain it. The firefighters and police said that that action helped save our home from completely incinerating. None of the animals are harmed and everyone is safe. It's only confined to the bathroom. I just ask of everyone to practice fire safety. This was a way to close of a call, even if it wasn't started due to my reptiles lights. Everyone should try to find an evacuation plan and a way to secure yourself, your family members and if you have enough time, your beloved pets.

Wow. So glad to hear that everyone's safe! Thank goodness! I can't imagine going through a fire, but you're absolutely correct! Always have plan!

Our dryer caught on fire yesterday...my mom thankfully closed the door to the laundry room before she got out of the house.
The fireman said by she doing that she saved our house. There is a bunch of soot everywhere so its a big mess.
But it could be much worse.
I also think it is important to practice fire saftey.

So happy for you that the fire was contained and minimal. We had a devastating fire almost 5 yrs ago, in the middle of the night. Thought we had gotten the fire out with an extinguisher, and it flared back up. We had removed all the dogs and two small children, but I did not take out my parrots because we thought the fire was out. Needless to say, they both passed, and I had to listen to them shrieking, knowing I could not get back in safely to save them. Most horrible time of my life. It is VERY important to have an evacuation plan in place for everyone including pets. Maybe small boxes always near cages, etc. We also closed the door to the master bedroom, which saved that portion of the house where all the family photos were, so that was a lesson learned, too. Everything else was a complete loss. Even this many years later, the sound of sirens makes my skin crawl. You always think it won't happen to you, but it can, be prepared.

Our house burned down when I was in 9th grade . We lost all but a few things . I lost 1 chuckwalla , 1 uramstyx , about 25 anoles , and an iguana ( not to mention a box of comic books that today would be worth quite a bit ) . Glad yours was confined to the bathroom .

Today we had someone stop by and turn on our hot water for use. Tomorrow we are having the fire marshal, electrition, and carpenter over to assess the damage and give us quotes. I am still without power in my room except for an extension cord so I can hook up a space heater to warm the reptiles. I can not wait for all of this to be over with. The worse part is that we just moved into this house. Fully remodeled and it just turned into a big mess.

I'm so glad this ended much better than it could have. A friend of mine had a total loss last March when his house caught fire. Unfortunately in addition to all of his possessions they also lost 3 dogs :( Definately a reminder for everyone, and to also be sure to change your batteries in the alarms yearly - do it the first of the year so it's easy to remember!

Good you guys contained the fire. If the firefighters were to come and put out the fire, the water damage would have been a total loss to your place.

There was no water use at all, so that is good. We have to replace an entire wall between the outside and in. That includes the window. Apparently they used a chainsaw to cut out the wall.

I am so sorry to hear of that happening to you. Thank goodness everyone is okay! Fires are terrifying! Zack and I got our first home signed over to us by his family the first of October 2010. On October 5 2010, before we were able to get insurance, a faulty breaker caused a fire that destroyed our entire home. :( Not only did we lose everything, but my precious 13 year old chihuahua/min pin mix died in the fire. It was absolutely devastating and I still can't even bear the thought of my little dog that I lost. It's really something that you don't think will ever happen to you, but when it does...well, there just aren't words. Traumatizing. My heart breaks every time I hear of a house fire. We are still trying to get back on our feet from all of this and it has really just been a nightmare! Good luck to you all!

It definitely is traumatizing. I still can't fathom it. The previous owner and the realtor who sold us the house stopped by last night to see if we are all okay. I am so thankful that nothing else went worse. I am so thankful I am still able to type this. I don't know if I typed this before, but they told me that I would have more than likely died in the fire if we didn't have a fire extinguisher and were asleep. I am so sorry about your house fire. I would have never guessed something so tragic would ever happen to us, or anyone for that matter. We had cleaners over yesterday to wash our walls, and clean the ducts. Today we have them back washing all of our floors and a contractor coming by to replace the window and replace the wall we did lose. Tomorrow we have the electrician coming over to fix the wiring and replace the breaker box to make sure that everything is up to code. I could never imagine losing any of our dogs. Especially my dog Olly. He was in fact the only thing that I did grab, while others grabbed our other doxies.
