Orange Head Roach Info

Are orange head roaches carnivorous? I thought I read somewhere they will eat the wings off eachother then each other entirely if not feed regularly. I've also heard they need meat about once every few weeks to keep them from eating each other. Do they bite? Will they try to eat my chameleon when she is sleeping? Please corect me if I have this wrong.

Most roaches will eat the dead, if Orange Heads are too crowded, they will munch on the wings. They do not need meat, just protein, from grain and grass based products.

They don't bite either.

CHEERS!

If dubias are too crowded they will chew on wings too, or if their ratio is skewed. I have had that problem a few times. Orange heads however are natourious for eating large amounts compared to the size of the colony.

Thats when the egg crates comes in since the bigger size roach will need more space than the tiny ones, and be sure to stack the crates vertically so the roach poop will drop down under not pile on the egg crates.

Yeah I have had to add many more egg crates than I have used before, my adult roach population is huge. I will eventually need to switch to a larger bin for my dubias <3

Yes and if u wana slow down the roach productions, you can always lower the temp down so they wont grow as fast.

Oh no I have plenty of little lizards who eat them... lets see, three leopard geckos who eat 5 every other day each plus silkworms, my panther chameleon who eats 4 large nymphs every two days when he's not eating superworms or crickets, my jackson who eats about 4-5 small nymphs every other day, my blue tongue skink who eats 3 medium roach nymphs every other day. And then I do regularly sell off some of my adults when there are too many, there is plenty of buyers near me. Right now they just eat tons. I probably feed them the equivelant of a whole orange and one whole carrot in greens and fruit every day and a bowl full of dry gutload every other day. Happy roaches <3

That is awasome and no more roach buying alphakenc I did the samething ,right now Im up to 45 large male roaches n 140 adult females, and they breed like out of styles, thank goodness I have whole lot of panther babies for them to eat with, with 2000 tiny roaches they can demolish a whole carrot like a bunny n they are much easier to clean than crickets since they dont jump.

I do buy roaches every now and then, I add a few more adult females every year or so, about 50 to 75 to introduce new blood, I believe this should be done with all roach colonies. Makes the males really excited. I believe the Orange Heads are less picky with their foods compared to dubias too.

That being said you can always set five different bin from a different bloodline roaches, since they not picky to mate, then u can start mix them in the different combinations to keep them strong n healthy, and gutloading is the key cause no matter what type of the roaches, once ur cham or other reptile eat them ,they wont be able to tell the difference,so feed that orange roaches with all that good stuff prior feeding ur reptiles ,u will see a big difference in that chameleons color n energy to move like a Pacman eating those fruit in the video game.
