Orange poo...

Okay so this is orange Pooh. What does that mean when my panther chameleon poops Orange?

Research very quick research all tell me that this is a sign of dehydration, I posted a pic of the poo on a Facebook group and was bombarded with, that's not orange poo and it's not dehydration.

If it's not dehydration orange poo what else could it be an indicator of?

I am feeding crickets currently. I have fed this batch of crickets bananas and potatoes but it's rotation of bug burger and other fruit and vegetables normally. I supplement almost everyday. Sometimes I have forgotten but not often. Less than once a week I might forget.

Vitamins...

Fluker's calcium without D3 everyday except when giving other vitamins.

Repti calcium is 2x a month

A is 2 a month as he started having tongue issues.

Multi vitamin 2x month

Basically every Saturday he gets a different supplement and it's on a 3 week cycle right now if that makes sense.
 
I'm more so worried about how runny it is. Urate doesn't look to bad. Why he's having irritable bowels from crickets is strange. Normally see this from lots of hornworms in the diet. Has he been tested for parasites recently?
 
Getting tested for parasites is never a bad Idea especially if you have other reptiles. We cannot and never will make up for proper veterinary care. Is there anything else that concerns you besides his poo? How long has this been going on?
 
Diversify the diet if at all possible. They cost a bit but ordering bsfl or silk worms will add a bit of nutritional value and help rule out it being cause by the feeders themselves. Big plus to those feeders is they don't chirp and the bsfl are great if you offer them and your Cham doesn't want them dump them into a plant they will a find it later or b it'll turn to a fly and be a snack for you Cham in the near future.
As mentioned above vet care is important. Chams hide illness well and it's best to be ahead of issues.
an ounce of prevention vs a pound of cure... a once a year parasite test / check up is a good baseline I hope you have a exotic vet local. It's preferable to see a reptile specialist.

Also that's some runny poop beyond anything I've seen from my Cham and I feed hornworms (those juicy m.f.ers are pricey in s.d. and I have zero luck trying to breed horn and silk worms ) which are mostly water it's odd / unlikely that crickets alone are the cause but offering a diversified diet is a big step up in husbandry. (Flex on it )
 
So I usually diversify his diet with black solder fly larvae (he prefers to wait till they morph and fly around) sometimes hornworms and wax worms, silkworms (have been really hard to come by) for variety but a store near me that normally has them hasn't been carrying them lately. And I started ordering from Josh's Frogs. Btw there crickets are the LOUDEST crickets on the planet! Ever!

This was the first orange runny poo and my humidity as been at 10% since turning on the heater for winter. So idk what to think when i read orange poo equal dehydration but the the other bits are quite runny.

Poo hasn't been this important to me since my son was a baby!

A little orange is just fine. We're worried about any red in the stools of course, a lot of yellow or a lot of orange. Imagine drinking nothing but energy drinks all day and the color of your pee that's what we're worried about those colors. As stated before I'm more so worried about why he's having loose bowels. His urates look just fine. You do need to get that humidity up a bit more though to the 30-40% range at day and 80-100% at night. This can be achieved with a ultrasonic cool mist humidifier and or fogger at night.
 
Ok so...

Yes, orange URATE usually means "dehydration". However, the way urate work is that at the time that specific part of the urate is formed, it could have been mildly dehydrated... then it decided to drink a bunch of water because it was dehydrated... then the rest of the urate comes out bright white. This is why the orange part isn't very concerning.

That being said, I see two pictures. One that's orange urate with some "snot" [usually excess water not absorbed and turned to urate]. The other pic is healthy urate with a loose or watery stool [this would be the traditional poop].

Was the orange part in with the normal looking part? Or at least from the same movement?

It could be a simple answer of your cham didn't drink [or have water available] for a bit, then got thirsty and drank a bunch of water. Or it could be related to illness/parasites.

Filling out the "how to ask for help" form and providing pictures of you ENTIRE enclosure and cham will greatly improve the accuracy of feedback.

  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

Hi yall!

So his poo looks a lot better now. My humidity turns out the Hydro thermometer from the bio dude failed. For some reason the temp is reading accurate but the humidity is not LOL.

He started having regular poos the next day so that was good. Just keeping an eye on him and making sure he continues to exhibit normal behavior.

Thank you everyone for your input I think that what was happening best resembles what hashtag Chamlife explained.

I really appreciate all of y'all's help and input it really help me keep my cool.

Glad your cham‘s poo has improved. Is always a good idea to have a fecal done anyways.
