I had planned it all out in my mind. My mother is from the island of Oahu, Hawaii and I always imagined if I found THE girl, I'd take her to the most beautiful spot on earth and ask her to marry me.
After a grueling 3 hour hike up the mountain, we finally made it to the top. Overlooking the ocean with shear rainforest cliffs on all sides, I got down on bended knee. She said yes.
On our descent, we ran into Ms. Jackson who seemed to be short on her congratulatory greetings.
And then, between discussions of the guestlist and the venue, along came the king of the jungle himself, Mr. Jackson.
The wild Jackson chameleons on Oahu seem to be thriving off the natural humidity and abundance of insects. Contrary to what my nonchalant story might imply, they are not easy to spot. If you were to go out just to spot one, I would recommend setting aside at least 4 hours and several pairs of eyes. On many occasion, I have come back without seeing a single one. But other times, things fall into place and you have to drink deeply of life and enjoy those moments. I'll never forget the day when I got engaged as well as a visit from Mr. & Ms. Jackson.
Tara and I, happy and exhausted.
