Panther basking temp

My new panther (5 months, nearly 6 months) has a basking temp of about 88, should I up it to 90-95? I'm always terrified of cooking them no matter what age :(

I keep my 5 month right around there and he seems fine. Everyone has there own ways of keeping there chams. If you bump it up just make sure he doesn't overheat. He will most likely be opening his mouth under the heat if its too hot

Conflicting posts on basking temps.

83.....85.....88.....90-95F

I'm gonna stay safe and put it to about 88 :D

Your right...temps for panthers are all over the place. I keep mine at low to mid 80's (82-85) with an ambient of 74 and night time temps of 68-70.

I have two basking spots for my Cham in his free range. A 95 degree spot and an 85 degree spot. He uses both mostly everyday. In the morning, he goes to the 95 spot - to warm up quick, I suppose. He spends a longer time under the 85 spot in the afternoon. I got him from Kammers and their care sheet recommends 90-95 for babies and 95-100 for adults.

I saw that as well and am not saying they are wrong....they have raised LOTS of panthers. But, I don't know anyone else that says this....for whatever that is worth.

Yea, I haven't heard anyone else use those basking temps either. That's why I gave him two spots - I wanted to see which one he would use more.

Mine don't really go higher than the high 80's either. Unless they're out in the sun, then I'll let them be out there in the heat as long as they have misting. But they seem to do well with this.

Although, in a big enough cage I don't think it would be a problem to have a higher temp. They can just walk away from it if they want, but in these 2x2x4 cages the only option is to go down and they may not be happy to do that.
