Panther Chameleon Baby

We purchased a baby panther this weekend at the reptile expo he is only a month old and we are wondering if we should be worried because he hasn't eaten since coming home. I know it can take a couple day for him to get used to his new environment.

Will u please take some photos on ur beautiful baby chamy and the "new environment " for us so we can share some knowledge with u
And u are absolutely correct on the couple day for him to get used to his new environment.

I'm at work right now but when i get home tonight i will for sure but for right now i will tell you he is in a repti breeze screen cage i am using a 100 watt mvb bulb and a ceramic heat emitter at night. i have a fogger we use for humidity set up next to his cage trying to keep humidity between 60 and 70. we bought him fruit flies and pin head crickets but not sure how to get him to eat them he is absolutely tiny.

@Brina Thank you for ur quick reply,no hurry with the pic n beware with ur boss since u at work...lol
"Depending on his current size" ,my suggestions to u is place the baby chamy in some where not too big just for him to find his food,if u can take a pic with him on ur finger or ruler later on,that will give us a better idea for his current size.

Here he is on my husbands hand

Yes his size is not that far away from a new born panther baby cham,I will definitely place him in a container for now jus for him to find his food easily, and these are just my pesonal experience,u can take a look on my album by clicking my name to see how I place them in the container, good luck with ur cute little baby,he is adorable!!

ok thank you so much i was just so unsure on how he would find food he likes to stay at the top of his cage and his food is on the bottom so i was worried about that

Check your basking area temps extremely carefully! Seems like a lot of heat for such a tiny baby. Remember, little ones like this can dehydrate and overheat very quickly. Unless the room his cage is in gets lower than 60 F at night you don't need ANY additional heat at night. I'd ditch the ceramic heat emitter. All it will do is dry out the cage faster. IMHO, the breeder shouldn't be selling babies this young. I hope you have good luck with him!

Wow he is tiny and I agree with Carlton that they should not sell chameleons that little to people unless they have total experience with babies. Best of luck with this little one!

U are more than welcome, and I agree with Carlton n carol5208,he is very tiny,at that size of cham,it is a big challenge for anybody, especially the food part that u have to worry, they need constant feeding n searching for tiny feeders n misting which will take away lots of u and ur husband valuable time,I hope all our support will at least take out some guessing work for u guy, best luck to ur chamy.

ok i use a temp gun to check the heat. i thought he was too little but they reassured me he would be fine. i hate when breeders are out to make money rather than the well being of the animal.

Here is a picture of his enclosure I have to get him more vines and leaves he drank finally but still not eatting

I use a 16 quart plastic tub for a baby that small. You can buy a cheap aquarium plastic plant for him to climb around on and to hold water drops for him to drink. Put very small crickets, maybe 6-8in the bottom for him to eat. I almost never see them eat when that small, only way to tell is I see little poops on the bottom of the tub.
I have to warn you that even without the lid, the tub will heat up very rapidly, be very careful of the temperature, which should be between 79-83F. daytime and down to 63-65 night. Keep him in the tub until he becomes more proficient at hunting the food prey.

Ok thank you i was wondering what we should put him in it just seems when in the enclosure he is just too high and not able to see them on the bottom. I put him in a bowl but he still didnt eat the crickets were even crawling on him. Really hoping tonight when i get home he eats or first thing in the morning when i wake him up. he is drinking when we mist the cage so i thought that was a positive.
