Panther color/species confusion

:confused:I ~think~ I understand that Panther chameleon colors are tied to species named for the locale which have names like Nosy Be and Mitsio. I ~think~ I understand that crosses result in other color combinations. But I'll be darned if I can figure out what Ambilobe and Ambanja have to do with it.
IF! I were to get a panther I'd like to at least know what the color combination I like is called so I can make informed inquiries. I'd appreciate help making sense of this.

 I was afraid you would ask that. I saw a picture here somewhere of one that was pale blue with green bars. That's all I recall but it sure was pretty! (handsome?)

I am not sure what you are asking, but Ambilobe and Ambanja are locales just like Nosey Be, Sambavas, etc. What do you mean, what do they have to do with it? Confused!!

Ambilobes usually have "warm" colored bodies such as red, yellow, orange, or warm green. their barring is red or blue or a combination of red/blue. Ambanjas usually have bodies that are "cooler" colors such as blue or a cooler blue-green. Their barring is also usually red or blue or a combination of both. Ambanjas also have a longer rosteral process.

Yes, so those are all locales, but not species. All panther chameleons are F. pardalis. I can't really think of a locale with a blue body and green bars except maybe a green-ish nosey be, but they usually have green bodies with blue/green/black bars. If you post a picture, maybe we can help more with the locale of it.

I appreciate that. :) but it was a random picture I ran across while reasearching the possible adoption of these wonderful creatures. If I find it I'll definitely post it.

Thank you, Kim

sometimes folks newer to panthers may also confuse which are the bars and which are the body colors. and some chams have extremely wide bars which can be even a little more confusing to tell what is what. i’m guessing that you may have seen a green body blue bar, which could be Ambilobe, Ambanja, or a few others.

the above link to cleanline’s page of panther locales is really nice if you haven’t yet seen it. if you have that page open in a tab on your browser and then look at photos of that locale at the same time, you will probably start to understand and appreciate the differences between locales pretty quickly.
