Ive noticed my panther has taken up chewing at the exoterra backing polystyrene. Is this toxic, he's well fed. Is it hunger or bordom thats doing thing? I dont want him to get ill from it
If he is eating it, I would take it out straight away Not sure if polystyrene is toxic to chams, but from an impaction point of view I just wouldnt risk it anyway.
I've not heard of chams eating the backing of an Exo-Terra. I have seen the backing melt though, due to the basking lights being too close. Have you seen him eat it ? Does he 'nibble' at it, or take big chunks ?
As to the cause, hopefully someone will be along with a bit more experience than me to give you an answer. Fairly sure a nice fat tasty gutloaded cricket is more appertising than polystyrene, so I would like to know what would encourage this behaviour too !
remove it. He may be chewing on it today and eating it tomorrow. I would not take the chance. I know your cage might not look as cool without it but you could be risking your chameleons health or life. Not worth it!!
